| Original Cobra colors? I stumbled over a web site some time ago (cant find my way back) where all the original Cobra colors where listed by name and frequency applied to customers cars. It also had some statistics on stripe colors and frequency. I think red was the most common color witch came as a surprise to me (I thought it should be Guardsman’s Blue) and Gold was a pretty common color on stripes if I remember it right. Dos this ring a bell? Does any one of you have a similar list or reference to where I can find this kind of information (I am trying to update “my” Cobra Guide with color information)? Thanks in advance for any replies / Bowtie

| RE: Original Cobra colors? Hiya Bowtie - how's the snow? You will be pleased to know that I am about to swap my Grand Cherokee for a diesel V70 estate (purely down to stupid UK income tax rules)!!! I hope it doesn't snow here, since going from 4wd to rwd cannot be a help?? I am pretty sure that you should either search, or direct, your question to www.clubcobra.com - I know I have seen this colour listing there somewhere, can't remember where exactly. How is it going with your engine? Gonna get a 350 passed off as a 305?? Absolute very best of luck with this attempt. One day I will get my cob on the Ferry to "expensive alcohol land" to annoy you! Wilf

| RE: Original Cobra colors? >I am about to swap my Grand Cherokee for a diesel V70 estate I just know it! Ford bought Volvo and then Wilf is buying one? I once had a Volvo 140 as a winter car because I had spent all my money on a really nice 69 Alfa Romeo 1750 Spyder Veloce. The Alfa was like a dream and the Volvo was like a tractor. The good news was that it started no matter how cold it was and it was only £300. I had it for over 5 years, only filled it with gas and sold it for £200! I must admit that I was a bit suspicious when my father wanted me to trade my Alfa 33 4x4 Sports Wagon for a Volvo V70 estate. It was when we got our daughter and he got me a really good price. This is a totally different car being the first Volvo I have found fun to drive but it is as a workhorse it excels. I know you will be pleased and maybe surprised. >how's the snow? Global warming is turning the old reliable Swedish weather into something like the stuff you use to have. All snow has rained away but there will surely be more of the white stuff before Christmas. And believe it or not but the formerly most expensive beverage country in the world has turned quite humane lately. Political reforms and underrated currency would amaze you. I will happily buy you the first round if you ever make it to Stockholm :7 >Gonna get a 350 passed off as a 305? The 350 thing is a bit more complicated. There are actually two of us building a Cobra each. Roy is your type of guy, a Ford man trying to make it as close to the SC original as possible. Swedish regulations have already forced him to sell his Ford Winsor and trade it for a 302 EFI. It is rates as 225 HP in Sweden and I have no idea of how he plan to get it trough. I think that I could easily get a 350 re-stamped with a 305 engine number trough. But it would then read 305 in the papers and I must admit that I would feel a bit guilty and worry about the insurance if an accident would occur. That’s why I am investigating the potential of the 305 right now, can I live with it? The only pro I found this far is lower fuel consumption, the biggest con is the lower torque. I really don’t know... I need guidance! >or direct, your question to www.clubcobra.com Good idea, thanks for the suggestion, I’ll try that... / Bowtie

| RE: Original Cobra colors? Look Bowtie - heres the deal - I am NOT actually buying a V70 - it's a Company car, hence my worry about tax liability. If it were my own, personal money, I would probably buy a 1975 Ford Escort. It's just that the V70 D5 diesel is farily tax efficient according to President Tone and his cohorts. Sorry you have no snow- my image of Sweden is now dispelled (ruined). I suppose you are not all blonde as well??? And six foot women weighing under 110lb with big t*ts are not common?? How can I continue to exist?? The very and I do mean very best of luck with getting your engines through your licensing regulations. In Holland apparently they have to get LPG for their cars to get them registered. And we think British SVA is a problem??? How many Insurance inspectors would measure the bore/stroke of an engine?? I can't believe it would be many. Stamp it up and be dammned!!! Having said that, my own car is correctly registered and insured!! BTW cubes = torque!! As the wise man says - you pays your money and............. I will one day turn up in Sweden in my very (socially) unacceptable car. The day I can plan that I will let you know - I am sure a good week at least can be had with you guys. Do you have a summer?? Tell me which week it usually is and I might book the ferry. Cheers Wilf PS how much is a pint of bitter now?

| RE: Original Cobra colors? I think it is totally different. The only way you can get a Cobra is to build it yourself as an amateur built vehicle. You are not allowed to let someone else build it for you and you are not allowed to build one for someone else. The car must meet some criteria’s to be accepted as a road going car much like your SVA-test. Vehicle weight to engine HP ratio is part of the criteria. The car is not allowed to deviate from the specifications stated when it is registered and the specification must meet the criteria’s for a road going amateur built vehicle. A new registration is required if I later change the engine or dimensions of the tires etc. These changes must also fall within the criteria’s. I really don’t know what will happen if I crash the car and the insurance company finds out that it doesn’t comply with the specifications it is registered under. The car will be illegal according to Swedish law and I guess that they could hold that against me x( It is very common with illegal vehicles like Hot Rods, Street Rods etc. in Sweden and there are usually no problems even if the cops stop you. The only thing that really bothers me is the insurance company and I am geting the feeling that I am the only one worrying about this in Sweden. Maybe I am the only Cobra builder in Sweden that has studied law or maybe I am just a chicken, I really don’t know... / Bowtie

| RE: Original Cobra colors? >And six foot women weighing under 110lb with big t*ts are not common?? That’s one thing that they haven’t been able to tax us for yet, the privilege of having beautiful women all over the place :7 Yes we do have summers and pretty good too. It is usually really warm and sunny June to August. A pint of bitter is about £2 to £3 depending on the quality of the pub and the beverage. And yes there are usually some skinny tall blonde girls with big t*ts and long legs in every bar. So to sum it up, reasonable priced beer warm summer and loads of beautiful women, that’s Sweden today. Welcome! / Bowtie

| RE: Original Cobra colors? Let me answer this myself and share some information I have gathered at http://www.clubcobra.com (thanks Wilf): The following is a listing of the actual name of the color and R-M (Rinshed-Mason) number for that color. All major brands of paint are cross-referenced, so if you cannot get R-M paint, finding a duplicate in another brand should be no problem. 260-289 Cobra [ul] [li]White A-1347 [li]Black A-946 [/ul] All other colors custom blended. 427 Cobra [ul] [li]Rangoon Red A-1440-R [li]Guardsman Blue A-1630 [li]Ivy Green A-1786 [li]White A-1633 [li]Silver A1784 [/ul] Color codes and reference #s for I.C.I. formulas. These colors were available in the early 60s to the early 70s on AC.cars, and should be be accurate as to hue and chroma, as I.C.I. was the supplier to AC cars during that period. [ul] [li]AC1 Guardsman Blue 4424m Single stage urethane, c262b Base/Clear [li]AC2 Dark Blue fg47 single stage [li]AC3 Mist Silver 6182m single stage [li]AC4 Ruby Red 6192m single stage [li]AC5 Canary Yellow fg38 [li]AC6 Lt. Green 5302m single stage, 5vf9b Base/Clear [li]AC8 Rosso Chiaro fg39 single stage [li]AC9 Pure White fg46 single stage [li]AC11 Mushroom (no kidding) 6189m single stage [li]AC12 Vineyard Green ej29 single stage [li]AC13 Live Oak 6188m single stage [li]AC14 Sand 6190m single stage [li]AC15 Princess Blue 6191m single stage [/ul] The single stage formulas may be reformulated to base/clear but coverage/hiding will not be as effective. / Bowtie
