DVLA Lincoln

Passed the SVA 4th Feb, went straight to Lincoln to get the beastie registered only to be told by their resident 'kit car expert' that I would most certainly be getting a Q plate as they cant accept the use of the donor axles as they're not beam axles(?), so they would only count the suspension. "This looks very dodgy, we'll have to issue a Q."
Managed to grab all the paperwork back off him and left quickly. Phoned Nottingham DVLA, extremely helpful. Posted all the documents to them last Monday, got it all back yesterday with a new tax disc on an age related plate. They didnt even want to see the car.
Moral of the story - beware of 'kit car experts' and go to any other DVLA office but Lincoln.

Congratulations Dave on the SVA
I will bear that in mind about Lincoln DVLA as I will be building in Lincolnshire(Scunthorpe)
Where did you take the SVA?

RE: DVLA Lincoln

Paul - I went to Beverley for the SVA. They were superb. The examiner was a great bloke who obviously enjoyed his job, had a great interest in kit cars in general and Cobras in particular. He was happy to answer my (many) questions and was keen to drive the car around the test centre car park (twice!)to make sure the steering centred properly. If I ever build agaim I'll have no worries about going back there.
By the way, I work in Scunthorpe so perhaps we ought to get together sometime.

Dave - I'm still considering making a formal complaint to the DVLA but I dont know if its worth the effort just to have my letter 'filed'. I just hope this blokes's the one I have to talk to when it comes to tranferring the cherished plate I've got on retention onto the cob, I'll really give him some earache (after the transfer is sorted of course!

RE: DVLA Lincoln

Hi Dave
I was recommended to take mine to Nottingham by Andy at GD because he said they know the system, and know GD`s cars, that includes for SVA which I got him to take as this was in May 2003, and there was all sorts of scary things being said then about SVA station, and SVA..
I live in Lincoln so I am glad I took Andy`s advice.
So I would recommend Paul to take his to Nottingham too, hopefully saving on any possible hassel.
We will have to meet up when the weather gets better and I get my car back from GD`s as it is there having my 350 SBC changed for a LS6 I had imported in from US.

Regards

Colin

RE: DVLA Lincoln

I can second what Colin said.
Things went very smoothly at both the SVA Test Centre and DVLA registration office in Nottingham.
Slight hiccup on the V5, but nothing major.

Simon.

Dave

I will be over in the UK the first 2 weeks in May and the first 2 weeks in June to start my build if you want to meet up for a beer.
Alternatively - any shows on in those dates?
