which diff

Guys
Can anyone help me I have a Ford 302 and T5 gearbox which diff ratio do you advise or what more information do I need to provide. Its been suggested that a 3.31 or 3.54 will do, but finding a 3.31 powerlock is not easy, so would the 3.54 powerlock be a better option anyway ??????????????

RE: which diff

Rover, both those are correct, depending on the use you are going to put your car to. 3.33/1 will give better cruising economy where as 3.54/1 will give better acceleration. Not wanting to start another debate but a power lock is not necessary, as some people say it needs adjusting for a Cobra in any case as the car is so much lighter than a Jag. {-} {-} {-} {-}

Just waiting for the fallout now }(

Rover

I agree a powerlock is not required for general fast road use, if you plan on track days every weekend, then a powerlock is the one.

I've got a 3.54:1 and its great on acceleration.

RE: which diff

Martin / Mike
thanks for the prompt replies, I can't see the car being put on the track so it will just be road use. Isn't it strange you ask one question and are left with more !!

Martin
I hadn't considered the adjustment of the powerlock. That sounds complicated.

Mike
Have you the powerlock diff ?

I know where a good 3.54 powerlock diff is but if this is going to be a pain for road use then I will pass on it.

RE: which diff

I would agree with other comments about PL diffs not being really necessary for normal road use, but equally our cars are often used on the track on the odd occasion for track days etc. If not by you then the next owner.
I would always advocate fitting one even though it may never get used to it's full potential.
It will certainly improve the second hand value I feel.
Driving at the limit with PL is definitely a learning experience and I recommend that it's done where there good run off areas and no curbs to hit. {-}
As Russ has rightly said many times to get the best from PL they should have the "slip ability" adjusted to suit the much lighter Cobra compared to a Jaguar. My guess is that most of us don't bother.

Just MHO. :tu

RE: which diff

That about sums it up.
I'm just changing from a 3.08 PL to a 3.54 PL myself.
The 3.54 will suit my engines characteristics better, and hell I didn't build the thing for economy.
