This would enable you to use one point to wire in dashboard. To give you some indication of how clever the original BMW ECU is, it monitors each and every denonation to ensure it is clean and sharp. Any misfire and it closes down that one cylinder until the ECU is reset. This means that should you set off a bit sharpish when the engine is still a bit cold ( lets say a bit of childish showing off when exiting a pub car park) and a trace of unburnt fuel causes a miniscule backfire the the ECU will cut all fuel and spark to that individual misfiring cylinder until the ECU is reset. Thus you can drive home for 30 minutes thinking " Shit, I've dropped a valve doing that burnout" only for the car to reset itself between stopping in front of the garge door and running it into the garage. Bastard. ![]() Or, for example, if a hose comes off and the engine starts to overheat the ECU will configure the engine to use cylinders to cool itself, firstly by injecting more fuel and then secondly by cutting the spark and using alternate cylinders as heat pumps to cool the engine. Then if you're too stupid to stop the engine , when it gets to 117 degrees celcius it cuts out completely and wont start until it cools to 80 degrees. Absolutely impossible to overheat. Hence its things like this which is why I like standard ECU's. Megasquirt will never be able to emulate that degree of complexity but if you can get it to run using the standard BMW sensor package, plug into the standard engine loom and give you functionality into the future re boost / forced injection compatibility you won't go far wrong. I'm looking at using megasquirt as a simple piggyback controller for an additional injector or two on a boost sensor which should be adequate for my turbo backyard engineering requirements. I've got all the standard functionality from the original ECU, ignition, knock sensors, open/ closed loop fueling/ spark etc. Good luck on making your own "aluminum" body, if you do one there may be orders waiting in the wings..... Cheers, Tony

| At the moment I can't sort out how to get away from the top rocker idea without major redesign to the lower end of the leg. [pic]http://cid-6e9208cc392fdb02.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/cobra%20build/IMG%5E_1271.jpg#resId/6E9208CC392FDB02!248[/pic] because the leg has to revolve say 90deg can't see how I can get the coilover secured at the bottom??

| Update Been a bit busy of late but things are still happening. The chassis is on the back burner at the mo due to the ally body gaining momentum. I have been offered the loan of a Southern Roadcraft Shell complete, from this I hope to be able to collect all the profile data and produce a wooden buck. Have looked into whats about Laser measuring wise but without spending bucket loads its a none starter going down that road. The best option is to build what they call a measuring bridge get the section data from that and turn it into Plywood profiles, these would then be pieced together progressively building up the finished contours A long and slow process but something that can be flat packed when not in use. Will post some pics once things start coming together. Cheers Tom

| Body Dimensions Can anybody help with body dimensions. I now have the Southern Roadcraft body, but I think the wheel base may be 91.5", I know that there are 92" w/b (Python) . Also if someone can confirm the door length from upright to shut this may also help. Thanks.
