| Radiator Fans live supply Do I need to keep my Rad Fans wired up to a permanent supply ?. It just seems a bit of a drain on battery life when the fans continue to run after the engine is switched off. I was wondering if it was okay to alter the supply to switched feed. Steve :tu |

| RE: Radiator Fans live supply Most cars work this way, must be some reason for it. I think the theory is that while driving the engine radiator and coolant are all hot, but constantly moving, cooling and redistributing heat. When you stop the engine, the water stops circulating, lot of heat soaks back from the block and head into the coolant in the head, heating it up. This would cause the coolant to expand. So to prevent coolant loss, the radiator fan cools the coolant there, keeping the same overall volume? It would also keep the average coolant at the correct maximum temperature. If you had no fan running when the engine was stopped and restarted frequently the coolant might overheat? There ain't no replacement for displacement.. | RE: Radiator Fans live supply The main thing is that as long you have a thermostatic switch in the system set to the right temp of course, the fans will only run for a short time, once you turn off the ignition. So your battery should be OK unless it's knackered.:tu http://www.woodoouk.eclipse.co.uk/Wales.gif Kev Davies Dax, 383ci Chevy Stroker, Tremec TKO South Wales
