Shortening the gear linkage

Can anyone advise how to bring the gearstick forward on a v8 rover manual and by how much.
Locations of people capable of doing the work would be great or recommendations on how to do it.
Thank you

RE: Shortening the gear linkage

I've never done myself but I know that you can shorten the remote housing to an extent. I think you'll need some one that can weld ally and steel.

RE: Shortening the gear linkage

I think there was a post a couple of months ago about this!
From memory there are 3 different remote housings, dependant on which model the box came from.
Cheers

Hi,
there was an artical on this in Snake Torque a few years ago, I have a copy somewhere if you want me to scan it in and email it to you?

Phil,
that would be great if you could. I have to collect the exhaust from dax next week , also getting tank, propshaft and adhesive for the body.
Im collecting all the goodies for when the extension is finished then i can start building the car.
If you want me to test drive the car all you have do do is ask!!!!!!
Will catch up with you some stage in the near future no doubt
Regards
Mark

RE: Shortening the gear linkage

Mark, the article in Snake Torque did show you how to shorten your remote but the chap doesn't do it anymore. He sold the Idea ( or what ever ) to Gerry at Hawk cars. He did mine 18 months ago and did a top job. Give him a ring and he will tell you what he needs from you, and I believe he now can shorten to 2 different lengths depending on how much you want it shortened.

RE: Shortening the gear linkage

Hi
The sherpa remote change is a direct swop and moves the stick about 150mm forward. easy and £5.00 from scrappy. I changed mine no probs

I think the LDV series also have the same shorter linkage,

here's a couple of completed pics you can see the old in the background.

Chris

RE: Shortening the gear linkage

Is that a comfy position 150mm forward. I reckoned it needed to move 8ish inches. My mates got a sherpa might just pich it!!!
Thanks for your help

RE: Shortening the gear linkage

Without going out and measuring it might be a bit more but as you can see from pics it won't go much further as it is now right over the output flange.
