ford 302 spec

Folks
all you Ford 302 owners have you any advice on what spec I should be aiming for when I rebuild my 302. I'm looking for around 300 BHP.

RE: ford 302 spec

Hi Rover

Its nice to see a Ford post for a change!

I bought my 302 from Brian at Repower in Sussex -

The spec of this engine is:
Ford 302 block
GT40 Head - cast iron
Compression ratio 9.0
Edelbrock performer RPM inlet manifold
Edelbrock 600 CFM Carb
MSD Ignition
Plus other bits.

Power guide 285 BHP 310 Ft Lbs

see www.roadcraftuk.cu.uk for full specs.

I must say that it is a very willing lively engine -Andy at GD was quite impressed when he drove it- and is fine at low revs around town.

Hope this helps

Stu Kaynes

RE: ford 302 spec

Hi,

Im soon to be starting a 302 rebuild (when my engine actually arrives!)

Anyway heres what Im going to do.

Seasoned 302 block, machined as required.
600 cfm Edelbrock performer carb.
RPM intake.
RPM heads 2.02 valves.
Keith Black pistons to give CR round 9.5:1
Eagle SIR5090FP rods.
New CAT crank.
New standard oil pump.
Now heres the important bit ( I hope!!) for driveability Im not using the performer RPM cam as its too lumpy, going for the comp cams 268H. Has a noticeable idle but Im told its not as bad as the performer RPM.
Comp cams lifters and timing gear set.

Im only short of the carb, cam, lifters, timing gear, pistons, oil pump and block!

Everyting else Ive got already. Big hint buy from the US, prices are very good!

Hope that helps & good luck.

Now watch someone say...Ah but if you.....!! :tu
Cheers

Andy
Study filling up with bits, wife not so amused! :tu

Stu
thanks for your reply have you any idea of the Cam that's in your engine. Do you know if the GT 40 heads are readily available.

Andy
Thanks for the reply, the dollar rate is what's set me off. The engine I have was a runner when I bought it it has a 600 holley and a Torker 289 manifold on it so i'm sticking with them to start. What i'm unsure of is the best comp ratio and the heads/ pistons to suit. It seems to get a decent comp ratio that you need to take some off the block

Sorry for delay in reply.
Camshaft is 0.480" lift.
Check with Repower for availability of GT40 heads. It seems that you can get a lot more HP if you port these heads.
I would also look into Edelbrock performer aluminmium heads - a bit more expensive though. Either of these routes should give you around 300BHP.
