BRA cobra - info

Looking for my first cob - anyone give me the low down on the BRA 427 - good, bad, average?

Just noticed one come up for sale built by Gerry Hawkridge (the 17th BRA 427). It's a bit long in the tooth at 17 years old now (Ouch!! - is this really a worry though?)

Cheers

Edit* it's on e-bay btw.

Looks like a damn nice car to me. I MAY have an article about the BRA427 in an old mag, If you like I'll have a look and if I find it, I can scan it and email you a copy?

RE: BRA cobra - info

maybe contact Gerry Hawkridge himself? I`ll bet he remembers every nut, screw, washer & bolt on that car(...and every other one he`s laid hands on!!!)
I`d recommend seeing it before the auction end, you can`t tell much from the pics, but hey, so what if it`s old.....faded Levi`s look best, No? You`re just adding a bit of 'COOL' with the aging!

RE: BRA cobra - info

Well, I've spoken to the seller and he suggested just that!! I'm definitely interested BUT there's a DVLA issue though - it's registered as a Daimler so I need to sound them out about it....there's also some paint to do and no weather gear either. As you say though, with that age at least the fibreglass should have settled by now!!

RE: BRA cobra - info

You SHOULD be able to get the car re-registered as a BRA without too much trouble now from the DVLA providing the owner has copies of the old mot's with the car described as a cobra.
DON'T buy it unless the DVLA says you can re-register it WITHOUT going through the SVA (very expensive)
Ring your local DVLA office first thing in the morning, and take their advice.
Simon
ps can't find the article...sorry

Concerning the car itself. I believe that any car from Mr Hawkridge will be first class in terms of design and quality. He makes his stuff to last 100 years, so at 17 it’s merely coming of age.

RE: BRA cobra - info

Thanx for all advice!

Simon - I'll ring the DVLA tomorrow to see if this is potentially a go-er or not.

Gerry didn't actually build the car - the ad's a little misleading in that respect }( - bought as a rolling chasis. Current owner has only had it a year.
