| effect of different oil filters ? What effect does it have by not using the correct oil filter? for example there is very little clearance for the correct oil filter on my RV8 so I use anything else that will fit ie longer but smaller in dia. Will this have a detrimental effect ? Why are coopers oil filters recomended ? Steve |

| RE: effect of different oil filters ? Different filters will have a different element surface area than the "standard" one. The internal construction will differ too. There's actually a large variation between manufacturers when comparing their filters for a single application. There was a post on here recently, which showed some info on a range of filters. (for a Ford 5.0 I think?) Basically a smaller filter will be able to trap less crud before it goes into bypass. Just bear that in mind when considering your oil change interval. At 3000 miles on a decent engine there shouldn't be an issue. Simon.

| RE: effect of different oil filters ? I've had the same problem. After speaking to Pilgrim an old style CVH escort filter is the same thread and almost the same diameter - it's just about 1.5" shorter which is enough to fit against the chassis. Same advice i had been given though, you'll need to change the filter more often due to the surface area / capacity. Jon |

| RE: effect of different oil filters ? Steve, you can still get the shorter RV8 filter made by Mann, P6 I think!? Have the part number if required. In your case Steve I don't think the extra micron filtration will ever affect you or come to your notice, they are all a bit of a muchness. Worked for Crossland filters for a time which is a Lucas CAV company (not a lot of difference between the lot!) despite what it says on the packet! Eric |
