IDENTIFY MY COBRA PLEASE.!

Hi,I've just rejoined after selling my Dax a few years ago. I bought a Cobra rep in Southampton. It was in a real state, so I'm rebuilding it completley but I can't tell what it is. your help would be appriciated.

V5 has it as a Cobra Replica first reg in UK 21 12 1984

chassis number GELGRJ

engine a Rover unit 42508769A was with a 4 speed gearbox
has a live axle drums at rear disc front. large Ford running gear...looks like a Corvette steering column. Box section chassis like a Viper.

Was metallic maroon grey leather interior. walnut dash..black carpets with red piping...all extremely well made.

hoping someone will recognise it.!!

Regards

Steve Morris

RE: IDENTIFY MY COBRA PLEASE.!

Steve The body looks very like my GE(gravetti).Big air scoop on bonnet, flat rear panel to cockpit and centre fuel filler. But I think all gravetti's were Jag based.Sorry cant be any more help.I'm the only GE owner who posts here and there isnt much info about them.

RE: IDENTIFY MY COBRA PLEASE.!

Steve, thanks very much for your reply and picture, without doubt I think it is the same as yours, I've looked at all airscoops and yours is identical to mine, no others are the same as far as I can tell. Also the chassis number sort of ties up too. GE LGRJ. I think mine must have been built from an old mustang or something similar.

Have you a mesh in the scoop thats bonded into a second layer inside the bonnet? The car seems to be made of very thick fibre glass, much more than the Dax I had before. The wing and shapes look identical to mine too. The bonnet fit is not the flushest fit I've seen at the nose end..is your the same? Attached is the rear view, you can see I'm waiitng for the interior and halibrands etc to turn up.!

Yours looks a very nice car by the way.! Is it all running.. etc?

Once again thanks for your invaluable help, trying to find that airscoop on other cars was getting to me.!

Regards

Steve

Steve
In short yes to all your points.Only differences I can see are the external boot hinges and when I got mine the dash wrapped all around to the door shuts, which I've now changed. You could try ringing this guy.
Bob Eggington,01622-862195.He changed the Gravetti into the GE-CK,He may remember if any were built with 'stang running gear.
Car is running fine at present, but going for a respray after Easter to be ready in time for Stoneleigh.
If you are going to Detling Sunday,we could compare more.

RE: IDENTIFY MY COBRA PLEASE.!

Steve,
Even your dash is the same then, the one I've taken out is dished too, made of walnut and wraps around onto capping on the doors. I'm having all this re-made with grey leather though. Trying to make it as original Cobra looking as possible. Thanks for the lead.!

Would love to meet up but my car isn't ready yet and I'm off to Canada for a few weeks on the weekend. Maybe we could get the Gravetti's together at Stoneleigh?

Regards

Steve

RE: IDENTIFY MY COBRA PLEASE.!

I nearly went into business building Gravetti`s as a franchised dealer, still have all the paperwork, I`ll post a pic of the chassis to see if that helps put the tin lid on it...certainly don`t recall Mustang parts being an option though. I seem to recall in-house front wishbones & modifed Jag rear end, but the key selling point at the time was that(unlike everyone else?!)they supplied ALL parts to build the car, so no donor vehicle needed.PM me your addy if you`d like an copy of the brochure emailed to you!(Excuse the coffee stains!) :tu :tu
