Birmingham DVLA

Has anyone registered their car at Birmingham recently? If so did they inspect the car there and then? Also did you get a reg number straight away? :tu

I registered at Birmingham on August 02. Then they only inspected cars on a Monday mornings at 9 am. We had to park on the double yellows outside the office and someone came out and briefly checked the car matched the documentation submitted. Ideally you need to talk to the person who processes the kit cars, though this can be difficult when the only accept fax communication, send them a fax and ask the person who processes kit cars to ring you and they will eventually and talk you through the process (this seams to change from office to office).

On the positive side within an hour of passing my SVA I had a tax disk and was on the road and legal with the same number as the donor

Steve,

Did you drive the cob there, or did you have to trailer it?

I had to trailer it there (its unregistered and you are not on your way to the SVA or an MOT). The centre of Birmingham with a trailer 08:30 on a monday morning is not a fun place to be. But its worth it in the end.

RE: Birmingham DVLA

if you try and contact Birmingham dvla you get through to a Swansea call centre and usually an extremely unhelpful "assistant". i was told to send all the paperwork to Birmingham dvla including the cheques, they would then contact me to arrange an inspection which they only do on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons, after the inspection the results get sent back to Birmingham where when they find time they'll issue you with your reg number etc. if they feel you shouldn't get an age related plate it is then too late, tough you have a "Q" plate. i explained that i was at the test centre the next day can i have it inspected at the same time? only if i had already spoken to Birmingham dvla i was told, great says i, put me through. sorry says the "helpful" assistant i can't do that send the paperwork in or go and see them. No matter how hard i tried she would not put me through to Birmingham dvla. so I'm taking the car to Nottingham where it can be inspected there and then.
Sorry about the long post but it really annoyed me at the time :} :}
