| Which to choose? Ive been offered what on the face of it looks like two Ford 302's to choose from. 1 is a 1971, thought to be a runner but Im waiting for the bore condition to be verified, I get the impression the vendor is slightly unwilling to pull a head as it stops it being a runner (have been waiting since Tuesday for him to do this), price £500 for engine minus carb and intake. options 2 is from a separate vendor, age not yet verified, bore condition not yet verified both should be done so in an email tonight. Engine is a cut out from the states and is attached to an auto trans. Price is £300 for engine only. As its for a total rebuild do you think Im better off with the £300 engine (i.e taking a chance on its history) or the £500 and payin a bit extra for knowing its a runner? Decisions decisions, obvioslu £200 is a bit extra to spend but £300 is a bit much to loose, then they could both be dogs, who knows!! Cheers Guys, whats your experience? | RE: Which to choose? I've been looking for a newish 2nd hand engine but what with everything else on the car being totally new, have decided to buy a completely new unit instead, rather than risk a 2nd hand unit which may already be rebored/reground to the limit... However, there's a guy contacted me with a complete, running 350 SBC, with clutch, bellhousing and tremec 5sp, in a car that you can drive around, compression test, check for oily exhaust etc and he was asking £1400. You may be able to negotiate on the price, then you can drop it straight in. And at the end of the day you'd be getting a Chevy instead of a ford, and it came with all of the gubbins. There ain't no replacement for displacement.. GD427 on order Cost to date: £1090.62, Progress to date: Big pile of assorted jag bits in cupboard and THE diff.

| RE: Which to choose? If you can see it running, check for oilsmoke, rattles & knocks.Get a compression test instead of tearing the heads off, If they`re all good, buy it, run it this year, and do a rebuild over the winter! My Dad has a 302 in his Mustang, I`ll redirect any questions his way if you need specifics, or try the UK Mustang forum.
