Sidepipes

I thought I didn't want side pipes, but at Detling I saw some on a Dax that looked so nice I'm contemplating a change. The Dax was parked next to a white SRV8 and was grey gel with blue stripes. I presume the pipes were Dax.(who else supplies sidepipes?) I'm still not up and running in the garage so I'm looking at somebody doing the job. So manifolds, pipes and all the fittings required any ideas on prices. Also who I can trust to cut a neat hole in my beloved car.
cheers dave.n

RE: Sidepipes

Dave

Do you want premature deafness, burnt ankles & no easy way of installing a balancing pipe, if so then go ahead & get side pipes. I'll rest my case for fear reprisals }(

Cheers

RE: Sidepipes

I have sidepipes on my AK. Never had problems with the noise (98db for the SVA). Never had a burnt ankle (nor have any of my passengers) and sound much better that underslung in my opinion (even without a balancer pipe). Underslungs sound good at tickover, but when they get going, they just dont do it for me. Cobs just dont look right without the fat chrome hanging from each side....

Whenever you say to someone 'I have a cobra replica' the first thing they always say is 'Does it have those big side pipes' ! I think I would be letting them down if I said 'no' !

RE: Sidepipes

Check out these babies, they're the dogs, a copy of the originals.
I wish I'd have seen these before I bought mine from Dax.

RE: Sidepipes

hi dave
try Roger at Shiny Bitz he is doing full system in stainless for £1650 fitted the last time I spoke to him, there is also a pic on his web site. one plus point especially if you thrash it on track days is that they are re-packable.
Good point about bunt leggs tho, I have recently sen someone with a very nasty scar on his leg so I am going to fit heat shields. but after SVA just in case.
the dream is becomming real
de-dion chassis, brake & suspension modules. 320bhp RV8 (ex TVR 5l) tremec box. and lots of switches plugs & fixings. oh! and no dining room.

RE: Sidepipes

I think the only problem with heat shields is the fact that they make your side pipes a ba5tard to clean, if you've been caught in the rain.
I bought some and found I didn't actually need them so I sold them on.

RE: Sidepipes

Thanks Guys
Is there really a problem with the burnt legs(surely you only touch them once).
As for the noise my underslungs are loud enough to prevent conversation and the fitting of a radio was a waist of time. Add to that the wind noise and on a long journey is it really a problem.
Nobody has mentioned fumes????

RE: Sidepipes

I've never had a problem with any fumes, or leg burning sure they get well warm but I've never burned my self. That said the front on the collectors gets effing hot so don't touch there.
A bonus is on a cold day at slow speed the heat rises up and warm s the cockpit area. :tu
