The close ratio and wide ratio top loaders share the same 1:1 top gear, so your final drive ratio will be identical to mine. What tyres are you going with, Avons?
With that gearing, 3,000rpm is a touch over 80mph.
I had a drive of a friend's 289 Cobra with quad Webers a couple of weeks ago. This was a proper HiPo 289 with serious pedigree and although it was quick, it didn't have the explosive power of a 427 and had to be worked relatively hard by comparison. I say relative, but it was still very quick compared to pretty much anything else on the road. While I was driving the 289, the owner was driving mine and when we stopped, he described the 427 as a "serious mother f@@ker" and said it was like driving an atom bomb. You'll love it!
It also reconfirmed how pleased I am with the integrity of my car. It drives like a "proper" car with no shakes, rattles or jarring.

Best I have had out of mine on a run was 17mpg. Knocking around locally it averages around 8 or 9 mpg.

Probably doing a dash to Le Mans in two weeks time (taking the newly aquired 1934 Rolls to the Classic) from Aberdeen so it will be interesting to see the average on a good run.

Forgot to say 427 cu in Chevrolet with forged pistons etc

Hummm........What 1934 Rolls have you acquired? We had the Rootes Bros 34 Phantom II Continental for a few years, ALY 601. Also had a 1926 Phantom I Open Tourer.

I have bought the fastback 20/25 bodied by Arthur Mulliner. Aparently he did 10 bodies in this style, 7 went on Bentleys, 2 on Alvis and mine on the Rolls chassis
