    Superperformance?

After missing Jake terribly, I am seemingly being drawn to this American creation -

WarrenBeckwith.com : AC Cobra LHD Superformance 1965 Carol Shelby 402R Roush

Does anyone have any 1st hand knowledge of this car or the Superperformance brand?

It looks nice and reasonably faithful to the 427SC, albeit lacks the chassis of the original or the tasty Crendon...

The Roush lump under the bonnet seems, on paper at least, to have the required shove, unfortunately it's mated to a 5 speed box though (I just loved the long gearing of the 4 speed Toploader in Jake).

All going well I may be looking at the car this weekend (depending upon the weather)...

    Any comments appreciated (maybe )

    Cheers,

    Mr H

    Hello Jason, welcome back.
For that money have you thought about a Kirkham with an ally body?

The SPF cars are well thought of state-side.
But I have never quite understood why they are offered with such a high price here.

Is this car actually IVA-ed and legal? some that are offered for sale in the UK leave that to the unwitting buyer, which ought to jeoperdise
    such a high price!

Its also unlikely to handle quite as well as the Crendon, as its made ofr US roads, but I may ofcourse be totally wrong - thats pure speculation.

You could also put in an order for one of the brand new AC offerings at that sort of price.

£60k for a FPSB?!!! Whatever next!

Agree, negotiate hard on a kirkham or save £20k on a Crendon.

    Nice to see you back.

    Hi Guys,

I didn't think I could get a Kirkham for anywhere near £60k...although I've seen the one on Pistonheads has been decreasing in price recently!

If I had the 1/time, 2/patience and 3/skill I would build a Crendon with a thumping great Ford lump under the bonnet, but alas I have none of those things currently. I also think that before building a car such as a Cobra rep I should 'cut my teeth' on a seven style car ... this would all take even more time! Argh! lol

I miss Jake loads now that summer (???) is here and just can't see me having anything else other than a cracking Cobra rep...

Mind you, the house isn't finished yet...hahaha, so Ann may object!

Hope you are all well and enjoying your various beasties and projects

    Cheers,

    Jason.

You make a most valid point wrt the IVA - I shall enquire. I do know that it has been registered incorrectly (from what the dealer told me - he said it was reg'd as a 1966 car).

The brand new offerings may not be to my taste, not that I've looked tbh, but I suspect there won't be a dirty great Holley sitting on top of the engine for starters Still, it would be rude not to at least have a looksee

    Cheers,

    Jason.

I reckon you could pick up a Kirkham stateside, import it and still be be inside that price.

If the ccar was first registered in the USA then it will be calssed as what year itlooks like, ie. a 1966 Cobra.
When it comes to the Uk the DVLA will look at what it was registered as in the USA, If it says 1965 then that's what the DVLA will register it as here.
    So not really incorrectly registered.

As said, too expensive for a GRP car with a box section chassis.

The wheel arches aren't the right shape either.

You'd be better off with a Crendon, which may have a GRP body that's not quite the right shape and a chassis that isn't quite right (On the authentic front), but it does have a better price tag and (IMHO) more kudos in the UK that a Superformancs should.

Looks like that might be chassis no. SP01600 which would've been produced at the factory in 2003.

I bought my Superformance MkIII second hand three years ago and absolutely love it! Mine is about the same vintage as SP01600. The quality of construction is top notch, and the car looks and drives like the real thing. There's a very strong owner network (mainly concentrated in the U.S.) to support you if you buy the car.
