    rear spring ratings

    Hi,
We took our Cob to Combe on Sunday, with the Bristol Motor Club, and had an awesome time on the track, where was the 50mph limit of the pace car??
Not complaining!! Cob performed brilliant on the track we seem to pull away from other Cobs on the straights and they caught us up on the bends!!
We had to slow down on the chicanes as both rear inside tyre edges were rubbing the inner wings!! I think i need stronger rear springs at the moment i have 225lbs on the rear. any suggestions what weight i will need just for Track Days?

    Alan,

Four 225lb springs seems to be fairly common at the rear on a number of Jag based Cobra replicas. Have you tried adjusting the shock absorbers? A 5 minute job to turn up the damping on the shocks for the occasional track day. They can be returned to a softer setting for normal road use afterwards.

    Cheers,
    Russ.

    Alan,
The number of clicks will depend on the manufacturer of your dampers.
For a normal road setup the back dampers will generally be somewhere approaching the mid-point setting between fully soft and fully damped. The front dampers will be set slightly harder than the mid point. Front damping always set harder than at the rear. Then it's a case of road testing and adjusting until you find the hardest setting which is still comfortable. For a track setup you increase the damping all round, again fronts harder than the backs.

Before you start making adjustments it's probably worth recording a note as to what each damper is currently set at by counting the number of clicks back to the fully soft position. Then counting the number of clicks it takes to adjust the damper to full hard. You then have some reference for your current setup and a 'clicks scale' for where the mid points etc are for your dampers. e.g my Gaz shocks are 46 clicks soft-to-hard if I recall correctly.

    Cheers,
    Russ.
