Crendon No 46 (Still Building unfortunately) Southern Automotive 452 cu in BBF & Tremec TKO - Starting with 510Bhp and we'll take it from there.
The guy I bought my top loader off in Majorca has (or had 9 months ago) a 427 top oiler if any use?

I think I spoke with someone from there about top loader, With my very little knowledge and experience what is the difference between side oiler and top oiler? Apart from the obvious I guess)
Whilst I admire your choice of motor, I have to say it seems inappropriate to put it into a Dax. Slight mismatch there, surely?
Crendon has left the building................bright yellow Stag has landed.
Advise please? What's your thinking about Dax haven't ordered the kit as yet, but really want to base the build around the side oiler.
if its a ford v8 side oiler you want - it really has to go in a crendon...............damn! should have saved up another year......

Can't agree more. Don't waste the money on a sideoiler to put it in a Dax.
Before Dax owners all jump up and down.....I only mean that the money spent will not be recovered the same unless it goes into something with a more "authentic" theme.
From my experience the sideoiler is an awesome engine and the Crendon is well set up for it. The steering is not too heavy in traffic and not too light at higher speeds. Yes, you need to put some effort into it when parking but it is not as heavy as the Dax I had with a Chevy small block.
If you get a sideoiler make sure it has been thoroughly checked out first. There are issues with them so do your research before buying.
Also I would suggest a mild cam and a stroker crank. Talk to Bill Parham at Southern Automotive for the low-down, but don't let him persuade you to take one of his "special grind" cams. It will be too lumpy for our traffic etc.
Of course you will need to look and see if you fancy a Crendon in the first place. Talk to John Kerr at Crendon 01296 651985 and look at www.crendonreplicas.com

Stefan is the guy with the 427. The side oiler prioritises oil to the main bearings first, the top oiler (sometimes called centre oiler) feeds the cam bearings, then via them to the crank. Unless you are intending to race the car, from a practical perspective there is no difference. However the sideoiler clearly has more authenticity and kudos. They are horribly expensive and if not then probably badly worn. If I was putting a sideoiler in my car I'd buy one built from Southern Automotive but you'll be looking at 15k.
I also agree that it makes no sense to put one in a Dax. Dax are fine cars but do not set out to be an authentic replica so why put a 427 FE in one when a stroked small block will perform as well for 1/3rd the cash? (Aaron is doing this but he's special!)
If authenticity is your reason, and Dax money is your budget, then Crendon is the logical choice as others have said. They are very special and comparatively rare cars but John builds them alone so order early!!! Even if you don't go the Crendon route, always worth dropping by to see what he's up to.
