RE: Stafford show and Wilfs car

Thanx for the piccies of wilf's motor,

wilf, How do you get around the engine heat problem as i ve heard people mentioning about the wire mesh in thee front making it over heat. That number plate must block up at least 40%. Very very nice motor, when i get cheesed off building mine i'll take a look at that pic and crack on

RE: Stafford show and Wilfs car

Hi Simon.
Where were you? I thought you were coming to see me.
Wilf was sitting with me for a while waiting for a gap in the clouds so that he could go home.
His car is the "Mutts nuts" though , don't you think?

RE: Stafford show and Wilfs car

Aaw gee guys - thanks for the compliments. Sorry I couldn't meet up with any more of you at the show - I only met Mr Jones on Dave's stand. I must admit I was waiting for the cloudburst to give over so I could get home - no hood yet!! Unfortunately, although it passed over at Stafford, it caught up with me on the way home, so it was a very soggy Crendon that finally rolled into the drive. I have to admit that not too much water found it's way into the cockpit, but it was a s*d trying to keep the inside of the windscreen clear - it had more raindrops on it than the outside! And as for mirrors - well lets just say I don't enjoy driving much in the wet. Car never missed a beat, so there's a relief for it's first outing after the rebuild.
Shame it was so wet, otherwise I would have loitered by the car to say hello. Simon - thanks for the pics.

Kelvin - for some reason I have absolutely no overheating problems at all, even with the number plate where it is. I only put it there for SVA, the intention is to get a 1965/66 number and then go to a stick-on on the nose. I might even cheat and use black and silver plates, even though that is, strictly speaking, a bookable offence.
I am of a mind to say that the header tank makes a difference - all the cars I have known with overheating problems don't have one. Is there a moral there??
I will post more piccies when the sun comes out and I can borrow a digital camera. Otherwise you'll just have to wait 'til Stoneleigh to see it again.

Wilf

RE: Stafford show and Wilfs car

Dave,

Sorry I didn't get to see you, every time I was in your corner of the hall there seemed to be so many people around your car (but thats a good thing)
Did you have a sucessful show? I had a look around your dax and it is a cracker!

Wilf,

I would have loved to have had a better look at your car, but from what I could see, its a beauty. The Crendon body is so straight as you look down the sides (I used to do some panel beating/spraying many moons ago) I think its got to be one of the very best (good grief, I'm starting to sound like you now !)
I'm hoping to get to some other shows this "summer" so we'll meet up then.

Simon

RE: Stafford show and Wilfs car

Wilf ~ Just to get these car colours sorted in my head - Thats Guardman Blue with Wimbledon White Stripes? What colour trim does your car posses? Can't see from the photo's as it the car appears to have a splash deck fitted...

I'm fast approaching decision time regarding the colour of my Sumo - It's a toss up between Red and white stripes or Blue and white stripes. The Red cars have a more sporty feel about them (In my opinion - of course) where as the Blue looks more sophisticated.

A light colour trim would suite the Blue where as the Red alternative would be better matched with a darker interior trim... And I'm not too keen on dark trim - Hence the interest in the different shades of Blue...

RE: Stafford show and Wilfs car - The Boot

Wilf

Car looks terrific!! look forward to seeing it a Stonleigh.

Quick question for you. It looks from the piccies that your boot has internal hinges? if so where did you get them, or did you fabricate your own?

RE: Stafford show and Wilfs car - The Boot

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Crendon feature internal hinges as part of the standard kit...No Naff Imp Hinges for that car - If I was ever to get run over by a Cobra Replica - I just hope it's a Crendon

RE: Stafford show and Wilfs car

JP - internal hinges are standard issue for a Crendon. One of those little details that make a difference.

Dan - yup - that's Guardsman Blue and Wimbledon white. I got the original US paint codes from clubcobra, turned out the blue is exactly the same as a Volvo colour!
Because this colour is very much a '60's metallic, it can look quite silvery when the sunlight hits it (not that there was much sunlight around at Stafford) - can make the thing look almost silvery-grey under certain light conditions. Certainly it looks very different in a garage at midnight!
I did keep the tonneau cover on at Stafford because of the weather, but the interior is basically black - black seats/carpets/dash - as per the originals.
I offer my sympathy to you and anyone else trying to decide what colour to use on their cars - it's the worst decision of the whole build! My only recommendation is to go to somewhere like Stoneleigh, look at all the cars, and decide which you like most.

Wilf

RE: Stafford show and Wilfs car

What a good idea Wilf! Does that mean you will be parking your car next to one of Dave's Imperial Blue cars It would aid the desicion making process...
