chevrolet ls1 engines available in the UK

A guy I know has been developing a source in the USA of low mileage Chevrolet Corvette LS1 engines. For anybody who doesn't know, these are the latest generation small block, all aluminium, high tech V8's, smaller and lighter than small block cast iron chevrolet. They can be had complete with T56 gearbox and sophisticated fuel injection/ecu if required. He can also build complete engines from new parts if required, although ideally there would be carburetted.
He's already had a couple of these engines through his workshop, and has ordered more. He has a web site www.chevroletls1.com that is well worth a look if anyone fancies going a step further than the traditional SBC, I know I do.
I have no financial connection to him, his name is Mike Johnson BTW, and he's situated in Nottingham. He's not VAT registered yet

There is another source in USA for all kind of EFI Chevy engines, including LS1, LS6, LT1, LT4, LT5, etc. They sell too wiring harness, modify the computer, etc. The prices looks fair. Perhaps could help any of you. www.tunedport.com

RE: chevrolet ls1 engines available in the UK

Thanks fpr that, Jesus, interesting site and I will give it a good look later. Undoubtedly there are many sources of these engines in the States, actually the point I was making is that they can now be bought in the UK as well, and from a highly skilled engine builder (better than someone who is just going to habd over the contents of a crate!)

Thanks for that Jesus, but the point I was making was that these engines are now available in the UK as well (I realize that doesn't help you much) and from a highly skilled engine builder as well, rather than someone who is just going to hand over the contents of a crate.

RE: chevrolet ls1 engines available in the UK

I have seen an engine tuned by this guy and been driven in the car. It was a year or so ago now but I remember thinking to myself at the time that this was probably the smoothest tuned V6 engine I had come across in a road car. If it hadn't been for the noise of the injectors it really would have purred.
The car was the blue Ford Cosworth featured on the web site and the car that made up my mind to put one of these engines in a Cobra. }>

RE: chevrolet ls1 engines available in the UK

Hi Andy, I built that engine and since then have tightened up the squish clearance, changed the fuel injectors and it was idling at 500rpm. You couldn't see it was running or hear it running and yet if you just touched the throttle it would spin the car if you weren't careful. The internal components were balanced by hand to less then a gram. The compression ratio was down to 7.2 to 1 (for the turbo's). I have the engine again and now am fitting Mark 2 eutectic pistons and reducing the ring gaps. I may tighten the squish further but at the moment the pistons are running clean around the piston crowns outside diameter so I may only go down another .005". It really fly's and is better then it was when you went in it. By, Mike.

RE: chevrolet ls1 engines available in the UK

Mike,

Fritz (owner of the car for others reading this) is doing some work on my manifolds at the moment, so I’ll look forward to seeing it when I pick them up if it done by then. It will be a few weeks before I am back there to pick them up.

If it will spin a heavy Sierra, then in a light weight Cobra... }>
