4th & 5th Gear

Errrm, not something an Alpha male is particularly keen to admit to here folks but I'm having trouble finding fourth gear when I drop down from 5th gear with my Tremec. Is this something other people find? I'm not sure if it is because I have not angled forward the gear stick like DAX have done on their purple demo. Any advice out there for an Alpha male with hurt pride?

I have not angled the gear stick either and do not get any problems from 5th to 4th. Does this happen all the time or just after a good run, as the tremec can get quite notchy if the oil is hot.

RE: 4th & 5th Gear

Rigman - I don't consider the shift quality to be the best feature about my tremec, I do occasionally find myself with a "box full of neutrals", but 5th to 4th is not usually a problem. And I put it down to excessive (or just enough?) testosterone, as any normal alpha male would. Red mist disease more like.
What oil do you have in it?

RE: 4th & 5th Gear

Ive noticed on mine, 4th lies furthe back than second relatively if you know what I mean. Is it newly installed and if so is the hole you cut in the tunnel allowing the full engagement. Just a thought.
Mike.

RE: 4th & 5th Gear

I've got ATF (arms, tobacco & firearms???) automatic fluid in it and the change always seems to be a bit 'notchy'. I do believe the hole is also large enough. I think it is purely an 'ergonomics' issue. Rob you may not have the problem because in the GD the position of everything might be slightly different. I think the problem is that fourth gear is placed too far back and close to me for me to 'feel' it's position. It sounds daft but 4th gear does not seem to find itself when you come out of 5th. Keep finding either 2nd or reverse!!!

RE: 4th & 5th Gear

Is there any method for putting a 'guard' on reverse as in some production cars where you either have to lift a knob to engage reverse or push the gear shift down? It's just that my 'day' car is a 6 speed and I have caught myself a couple of times just before engaging 6th in the cobra which is of course reverse!

Any ideas welcome.
Andy

RE: 4th & 5th Gear

Alpha boy, I'm running with a Tremec 3550 and apart from second being
difficult when cold - have never experienced any problems.

If your aparture is OK & oil is right - then it could possibly be a selector set up problem - but more likely to be finger trouble.

Can you get along to the Dax open day on Good Friday? may be able to try mine as they say!

Regards Clive
