Buying Cobra

I am starting the journey of buying a complete OTR Cobra, obviously there is a lot of money at stake and I want to make sure I dont buy a lemon.

What things do I need to be looking for? Any advice will be welcome

Re: Buying Cobra

To ensure you don't buy a lemon, keep away from all yellow ones!! Greetings and welcome to the mad house . There is a section on this site entitled 'buyer beware' - read it. It explains about V5 info and why its important that the Cobra is registered as what it is i.e. Dax Tojeiro, GD, AK, etc.. as opposed to Jaguar, Ford, MG, etc.. which would have been the original donor car. If you have a member of the club near you they may come with you to see any potential purchases. Good luck.

Re: Buying Cobra

Thank you for your comments, regarding the V5. I am heading for the section after posting this reply.

With this in mind I suppose the only other things to take a look at is the usual associated with buying a classic car.

Regards
Garry

Re: Buying Cobra

Yep, thats pretty much it, other than things specifically related to kit cars, i.e. body fit up to chassis, safety related items such as suspension set up and brakes. Remember you are buying a vehicle that may have been built by a professional, a company or an individual who was after making a 'quick buck' and didn't take care on these matters. Not wanting to put you off but you do obviously need to be careful. It might pay you, before handing over any money to post up on this site the proposed purchase with the price, with pics if poss. The members on here will then advise you. Once a particular make has been chosen, there are plenty of experts on this site for most makes of Cobra and they will put you right.

Where abouts are you based? I can point you in the right direction of a member to speak to.

Re: Buying Cobra

Hi Guys,

I might be being dim, but I'm having trouble finding the section Buyer Beware. How do I get to it.

Thanks

Dave.
