Lucas L691 and L692 rear lights

Hi Guys,

What is the difference between the L691 and L692 Lucas lights??

Is anyone running them (show us a piccie if you can!).

I've seen them mostly on Crendons and AKs.

Europa only list L691s and Cobraaccessories only list L692s

What are you running?? and where did you get them from??

Re: Lucas L691 and L692 rear lights

Sad man with time on his hands and too many old brochures hanging around.

I can find no trace of L692 lamps but most suppliers seem to stock L691 - check out these websites:

www.europaspares.co.uk
www.s-v-c.co.uk

I also note that the Holdens brochure shows these lamps but I couldn't find them on the website (www.holden.co.uk) - they tell you that these lamps have chrome rims and require a 33mm hole. The lamps have an 83mm diameter.

Alternative rear lamps seem to be L542 (rectangular - as originally fitted to the AC machines) or L539 which are similar in size to L691 but have "rocket fins" incorporated into the mouldings.

I'll try to attach an image of these lamps but my previous attempts have not been successful

Re: Lucas L691 and L692 rear lights

Robin,

Thanks for the reply.

I have L539s on the front for indicators at the moment and know of the L542 rectangular lights.

The story goes that AC used to buy their lights from a Hillman dealer locally and the L542 were fitted to the Hillman Husky or Hillman Minx (I think), so that is what they used - anyway, one day they sent a guy down to get some more lights and they were out of stock.

They offered alternative lights which were the L692s as fitted to Hillman Imps at the time, so later Cobras (427s) came with these lights.

Funny enough I was sitting in a petrol station today and a Hillman Imp came in, and they are the correct ones!!!

Boring and sad, but kind of a nice little story!

I have no problem getting hold of L691s, I'm just wondering if L691s and L692s are exactly the same (They are very similar)

Re: Lucas L691 and L692 rear lights

L691 is the single filament amber indicator, and L692 is the twin filament red stop/tail. Otherwise they are the same lamp HTH

Cheers

Re: Lucas L691 and L692 rear lights

Thanks Chris,

Just what I was looking for and that makes sense now "1" for single filament and "2" for twin filament.

So your top light is L691 and your bottom light is L692, is that correct?

Thanks for the piccie!

Yes and Yes, if you look closely you can just make out L691/L692 to the right of the top screws. If you go to Newark you can haggle a deal on a set of six from Premier Wiring or the like!
Cheers

Yes Rich I have the old style smaller flat ones with no E mark and they go through the SVA no problem. I know of several other people who have also got through so no probs

Re: Lucas L691 and L692 rear lights

Could not agree more. AK were advised that the old ones might be a problem but as yet NO ONE has had any bother with them at all.
