Help with Fuel Injection.

Working through the fuelling options for my motor Ive found myself thinking about aftermarket fuel injection for my 1971 Ford 302. Ive looked at the options I could easily find...

1) Edelbrocks proflo system {v. expensive}
2) The Holley commander 950 (thats for the 5.0 302 {does that mean the latter engines?!} will it work on a 71 302?

and then I spoke to someone about LPG and he recommended getting a Holley injection manifold and some Jag injectors etc....... He also spoke about Emerald? injection ecu's and Ive heard of the megasquirt (is that right?!?)

Any help will be appreciated because Ive not yet brought a carb but I do have a performer rpm manifold which I could adapt or sell.

Are there any other systems around, is it easy, and importantly is it expensive and worth the effort?

Cheers

Andy

Re: Help with Fuel Injection.

I've done the trawl through the aftermarket injection systems as well.

At the moment the Megasquirt only controls fuel not spark, although they are working on a Squirt n spark system for future release.

Kinsler systems look great until you see the price.

Edelbrock pro flo systems look good, I understand they are limited in the size of the injectors they can contol so are only good up to a certain HP, not sure if this is right, I know Rob was using this system on his supercharged GD and that made more than enough power for most people.

I'm going for the Holley 950 Pro system with wide band O2 controller. There's some great support online under the Fuel Injection forum on www.chevytalk.org, the moderator, Doug, works for Holley and if he can't fix it then it can't be fixed.

As for my system I found a cheap manifold, throttle body, fuel rails and 36lb injectors on eBay - an Accel ProRam system, which I'm going to wire up to the Holley ECU (the Gen VII Accel system looks great and is very sophisticated but is very expensive (another $1000 on top of the Holley system at least)

Re: Help with Fuel Injection.

Thanks for all the replies.

After looking round Ive decided to stick with a carb setup for now and then put injection on the list of upgrades for the future.

Only knows if Ill regret it later!!
Cheers

Re: Help with Fuel Injection.

James,
just to let you know Megasquirt does control spark as well, been running it on my car since last year. MS2 is out very soon which will have a processor twice as quick and is an easy upgrade from MS, just plugs into the old processor hole. This will also have spark control with temp compensation.

Re: Help with Fuel Injection.

Phil

Thanks for the the notice, it's going to be a while before I have to by the ECU, still just building the engine then have to build the car, at this rate it'll be years before I get to start her up, I'll have another look on the Web and catch up on developments.
