RE: gas struts

Hi Mark

I got 2 pairs for my AK from Radio Spares, they are adjustable for pressure and work well. I paid £85 inc vat.

Since purchasing mine I notice that Ken at AK sells them for £75 + VAT

Cheers
Miket

Miket

Which ones did you get from RS? I am interested as I will shortly need some myself.

I see from the latest catalogue they are around the £45 mark for two. As far as I am aware AK charge £80 per pair which starts to get expensive if you do the boot as well.

Cheers John

RE: gas struts

If you are going to any shows soon, a few do the Relaiant Scimitar gas struts which are tthe same I think as the Capri boot ones. I use them on the Dax bonnet and they were £20 a pair. Perfect pressure, they could have been designed for the job.
MIke.

RE: gas struts

Eyup fat boy northern... what are you doing posting a technical queery in the general discussions forum.

From what Mikey says it looks like I'm looking for a capri in the scrap yard when I come to put mine on. He must know summat. I've seen his wheels...

Now have you made your mind up yet? I know I have.

Regards

RE: gas struts

John

The RS No is 686-979, these are a perfect length for the AK and adjustable for pressure.

In the last price list from Ken at AK his gas struts are £75 + VAT for four, not a pair.

As to the other posts, I purchased four from a Sierra tailgate, perfect length, but non adjustable and would hold up the car never mind the bonnet.

Good hunting

Miket

PS. Fit the gas struts before you gap your bonnet, because the pressure moves the bonnet towards the screen by as much as 5 - 10mm.

RE: gas struts

Thanks Miket

I will of course check with Ken before I go ahead and get them from RS but the latest price list of accessories which I picked up from Stoneliegh shows the Gas rams and fitting kit as £160. I presume the length is OK for the boot, just the pressure will be less.

Useful tip that about the bonnet creep with rams attached.

Cheers John
