White sidepipes

Hi there,

Has anyone ever put white sidepipes on their cobra like the original original?

If so, how do you do it? i.e. what to use cos of the immense heat!

Cheers n Beers

Ben

Re: White sidepipes

Havent done this myself s I;ve got chrome ones, but I beleive you can get white VHT exhaust paint. I'm sure custom chrome would be happy to provide non-chromed sidepipes if needed.I used the black VHT on my headers and its produced a nice smooth heat resistant finish - goes slightly matt once its been baked to temperature by runnig the engine.

Alternatively you can get them ceramcoated (I think thats what its called), but I think its quite expensive as they coat the inside and the outside of the parts.

Maybe post something on the US cobra site, as some of thier cars are fitted out with white sidepipes?

Kevin

Re: White sidepipes

As said, if you look at the yank sites they use ceramcote, VHT or BBQ paint on their pipes, any marks etc can be sprayed over with the latter two. Not sure if that would work to good here due to our crappy weather, rust would set in pdq if the pipes were steel and not maintained. From what I gather ceramcote is corrosion proof and acts as an insulator, no more burned legs

Must say though I like the retro look of white or black pipes, fat tyres and simple interiors. On the other hand full leather, 18" rims and a sexy paint job ain't bad either, choices, choices.

Re: White sidepipes

Hi,

I use VHT white on the front of my pipes and I think it looks fine, I just re-spray
them every once in a while. They are SS though, I don't know how much protection the paint would give on normal steel.

They were that way when I bought it (I guess previous owner blued them
with some interesting driving )

Re: White sidepipes

Hi,
I had it done on mine. The original finish isn't actually paint of any kind. It is hot sprayed aluminium and is therefore completely heat and corrosion resistant. It is a matt white/silver in appearence, but always tends to look white in photos.
The pictures in my gallery are of when the pipes were painted white with heat resistant paint, which lats no time at all due to the heat and blasting the downpipes receive from the front wheels.
I then investigated the original finish and had then done by a company in Coventry. It's actually an industrial finish and is consequently really cheap. I'll try and find some details and see if they are still in business.
Cheers
Paul

PS. the pictures in my gallery are from before I had the sprayed aluminium. It was heat resitant paint and lasted no time at all. I'll dig out some pictures from after I had the pipes done and post them up.
