MOT Rules

Just phoned my local MOT center to book a MOT for tomorrow and he thinks the rules have changed regarding a pre-sva car.

He questioned how to MOT a car with no registration number and that the rules had changed.

Can anyone confirm or reject this claim (please!!).

Re: MOT Rules

Hi Michael,

I can't see how there's a problem. I had mine MOT'd locally yesterday on the chassis number only - they wrote in the registration number box 'not registered'. My SVA is next Wednesday at Gillingham. I believe there's an MOT 'hotline' for garages that they can call to ask VOSA questions about the test, and I'm sure they'd answer this one for them. Don't know the number though. You could phone their national number 0870 6060440 and ask them. They might even contact the garage for you to set them right.

Sadly failed the MOT, but on stupid little things - one brake light not working (dodgy bullet connection), headight alignment off (which they'll put right on retest), one flexible brake hose touching wheel at full lock (moved), handbrake reaching limit of travel first (needs adjusting at caliper end) and the lower bush for the steering column had popped out of the bracket (pushed back in). Should have a retest next Monday.

Andy

Re: MOT Rules

Ditto to Andy's post.
They should write, Not displayed/not registered etc. in the reg no. box.

Re: MOT Rules

According to Brum DVLA office it is now not necessary to get an MOT prior to SVA to register the car........ although I still think its a good idea to get a professional to check out our efforts prior to the SVA chappie.

Got my new V5C today and nothing is noted in the exhaust emissions section, does this mean I've no limits re emissions so it can be goodbye expensive power robbing Cats ?

Cheers,

Tony

Re: MOT Rules

Michael,

I've traded me getting the GD for her indoors getting a sprog

I'm starting to wonder if i got the raw end of the deal..!!! It'll all be worth it when he/she/it can pass the correct spanner/socket!

Re: MOT Rules

I have one 12yr old who's really helpful and pointed out some better ways to do things (he's out tonight ) and a ten month old.

My wife agreed to car for sprog and when the car arrived she said "what a time to get a kit car"

Just come back in and managed to get one seat in, one harness attached and the water washer bottle back in due to a leak earlier.

Fingers crossed it'll go well, I think he knows Cheng so he may be cobra friendly!!

Re: MOT Rules

Hi Guys,

Just to let you know that it finally got tested today and passed

The guy at the MOT center also showed me a couple of things to sort pre-SVA (just to be sure).

One scary moment though, came to my turn and the car wouldn't start It would fire but go no further. Strangely I checked the petrol into the carb and it was fine. Got a few tips from Dave B. and finally put another two gallons in and it turned over fine

SVA two weeks and counting......................

Hard bit is I have a working driveable car I can't legally drive
