South Wales Run 18th July

Sorry Rob and Tinka, I posted this here as well as the trips and rides forum just in case folks don't scroll that far down the page.

OK folks,
for anyone who fancies a run through the beautiful vales and valleys of South Wales step forward.

Sandra and I have pretty well sorted a route for the 18th July.
It will be around 120 miles finishing at Tintern or Chepstow, this means that you folks from the Bristol area are almost home.
I will print out the route giving directions, mileages etc.
The route will take in some stunning open roads, views of the Heritage Coast, and then up through the valleys and the Brecon National park.
We've found a good pub lunch stop, they serve food all afternoon, the only drawback is the limited size of the car park, but there is plenty of roadside parking too.
The starting point is The Downs Cafe near Cowbridge, very popular with bikers of all kinds, vintage and contemporary on a Sunday morning.

Directions to the Downs Cafe,
From junction 34 M4, take the road for Llantrisant for about 1/2 mile straight on at the first lights and left at the second set just before the petrol station. Sign posted Miskin (I think)
About 1/4 mile take the 2nd exit at the roundabout for Pontyclun, at the mini roundabout go straight on.
about 1/2 mile at the 'T' junction turn left sign posted Ystradowen and Cowbridge.
Carry straight on for around 3 miles, straight through, Pontyclun, Ystradowen, Maendy to Aberthin there is tight right hander in the village with a pub on both sides of the road.
The Pub on the left is the Hare and Hounds, immediately after the Hare and Hounds turn left (in the middle of the right hand bend) and then immediately right up the hill for around 1/2 mile, (this is a narrow steep lane with a couple of tricky bends so beware of oncoming traffic).
Pull into the car park at the cafe you'll no doubt see the bikes.
If you don't fancy the narrow lane, carry on around the right hander in Aberthin to Cowbridge, turn left at the traffic lights, up the hill for around 1/2 mile carry on over the A48 behind the BP garage and turn left into the lane by the garage.
The cafe is just on the left.
Fuel is available at Miskin, Ystradowen and BP near the cafe for those that want fuel up before we start.

I figure we should meet up from 10.30 am with the intention of leaving at 11.00 am this should put us at the lunch stop for around 12.30 - 1.00 pm.

All comers welcome,
let me know if you think you're coming so I can have enough routes printed.
Let hope for great weather too!

Re: South Wales Run Sunday 18th July

Ok Guys and gals,
The weather forecast is looking like it's going to be dry, if not mega sunny.

So get those Cobras out and down here for a lovely run through the Vales and Valleys this Sunday.

All comers welcome.

Re: South Wales Run 18th July

Sorry Kev but I won't be able to make it, as I don't get back into Heathrow until 10:30hrs in the morning.

And even I can't make it down the M4 that fast.

Hope to see you on my run in August (crop circles of Wiltshire). Let's see if we can beat the ten cobs we had last year!!!!

Will post details in a couple of weeks!!!

The Rock Doc.

Re: South Wales Run 18th July

They say that the sun shines on the righteous.

Although it's pretty miserable right now according to the BBC Sunday is going to be sunny and 20 degrees ideal Cobra weather, so come on guys and gals.

Come and have nice run out.
