Buying Advice

I am going to purchase!! I need advice from the experts as to which manufacturer to go with. I do not have the facilities to build the car myself, so I am going to use a "turnkey" builder. I am leaning toward a Dax (had a test drive twenty years ago and have been salivating ever since). Anybody got any views? Finally with my Budget (Max £35,000), would I not be better to hold out for one the last of the ACMK1V's???

Re: Buying Advice

Hi and welcome,
I don't know the price of an AC mkIV I must admit.
But £35k will buy you a lovely car.
In my opinion you should talk to Dave Brookes of DB Replicas, he's a specialist Dax builder and maybe just the man for you.
There are many on this forum who I'm sure will second my endorsement.

I'm not one of Dave's customers but have seen much of his excellent work.

Re: Buying Advice

I will certainly second Kev's endorsement,as i'm one of DB Replicas satisfied customers. With that sort of budget though you will certainly have a great deal of choice of some of the best Cobras around.
There is an article about the Autocraft Mk4 (AC Mk1V)_ in the first issue of Cobra magazine and it says that for £22,500 will get you a bit of a "roughie",£32,500 will get you an average condition car,and £50,000 will get you a " minter". Hope this helps.

Re: Buying Advice

AGroomster,

With that sort of money available you could (probably) get a Crendon Built by John Kerr at Crendon Replicas.

Give him a call and tell him I sent you!! (That should put him off you immediately!!)

John can be reached on 01296 651985.

Nothing against Dave Brookes (he's a top guy, and good quality work).

Just trying to keep a balance.

Or a GD, just for a bit more balance.

Re: Buying Advice & my 2 cents

Thought i throw my 2 cents in here from across the pond ......
Was on tour in the U.K. last year visiting with a G-D customer & he took delivery of his rolling frame while i was there , i was impressed indeed , excellent work by Andy & his crew very well designed & engineered . We then went G-D for a look around & a chat with Andy , impressed again........ Top quality workmenship @ GD
Customers car complete now & he's 1 very happy G-D 427 owner

Stopped @ A K nice chaps , could'nt stay for the full tour , many people i've talked to very happy with there workmenship

Took a drive in DAX cars , impressed again...... missed stop'n into see Dave Brooks (DAX builder) @ D-B replicas , would have liked to have pop'd in for a tour. Heard nothing but praises about Daves Brooks quality & service & i'm sure to pop in for a vist next time .

It's a tough choice mate , i say do your homework keep asking questions ,see what you can afford don.t cheap out or cut corners , best of luck! Daryl / Dr.Dee

Re: Buying Advice

I thought Hawk were planning on some sort of turnkey deal? Sure they mentioned it at Stoneleigh.......
*2 pence in slot*
Kirkham too expensive, so Crendon for authenticity, GD for performance (with e type rear to get the wheel offsets 'right' ) or AK for budget.
