| Here we go Right, this is my first thread (probably should go to the newbies bit first but i never read them so i doubt anyone else does) so here goes. I've been wanting to build myself a Cobra for years ever since i saw a metallic purple one in Holyhead when i was about 14. All i remember was the noise, it just gets you hooked immediately! Anyway, i'm at the point of deciding which kit to go for. I don't want a total budget car (sierra gear and 4 cyl) and it definately has to be a quality finish. My budgets probably around £15k (for now) My prioritys are 1)Speed and Handling 2)Budget 2)Kit quality and finish I've narrowed it down to three: AK427 Dax Sumo I've heard the new Sumos are much better than they used to be in respect of handling and build quality I've heard the Dax's are slightly more challenging to build. Not really heard that much about the AK427's other than they are good. That's as far as i've got. Going to go to Donnington to get a feel for the looks of each car, but any advice now would be grately appreciated. Oh and another thing, it's the old big block small block question again. I know that a short block is the block, pistons, crank etc only and a long block is with the head and other gubbins. But is that the same as a big block and small block? Anyway, that'll do for the first thread. |

| Re: Here we go Hi and Welcome I've just gone through the same process of picking my supplier and all the confusing questions over engines and gearboxes. How did you come up with three choices and why haven't you got GD in there rather than Sumo. (they are more expensive though) If your based within driving distance of hampshire go to soverign cars. He'll be more than happy to let you have a look at the cars he has. I've chosen AK (filled out my order form last night) over GD and Dax. I dont like the chassis on GD and DAX are over priced all the advice and comments I had pionted towards AK. And the guys there are very good and helpful. As far as the SBC and BBC question goes: Your right about short and long but its not the same as Small and Big. Heres my understanding SBC 262 - 400ci & BBC 400 upwards. Unless your comfortable with engines (ie a mechanic) stay with SBC. BBC hard work especially to keep cool For gearboxes check the thread near the top of the forum. It explains where Getrag boxes come from etc Gary |

Have a look in the video section for how they did around Elvington. The speedo is on the left, and when it is at 12 o'clock, thats about 100MPH. http://www.cobraclub.com/cobragaller...at/3021/page/1 Rob

You make all the noises, but when you stop you haven't really gone anywhere. |

| Re: Here we go Also, have a look at the latest race report. These are more or less the standard cars, but with a bit more horsepower. http://www.bmdatabase.co.uk/srgtc/20...snetter_04.asp http://www.srgtc.org.uk/ Rob

| Re: Here we go Rob -how did you get such a steady video image & filter out the wind noise at Elvington. When I've tried video in the car it's always been a bit wobbly & the wind noise is deafening! ![]()

| Re: Here we go Having a look at the snetterton pics, isn't car 26 a "special" GD, the bonnet certainly looks different from standard. As such, isn't it a bit unfair to come up with the old GD handles better than "another brand" as its not the standard car - if it is a standard car, then I'll shut up! Otherwise, it's a bit like buying brand x of car as they do jolly well in touring cars...
