new or part built?

I am quite sure this has been discussed at length long before I joined this forum but I would appreciate more experienced Cobra builders thoughts, I have recently sold my Robin Hood 2B and have funds available to build my Cobra I reaaly like the value that Pilgrim offer and I was down the road to purchase chassis and body and go the Rover path, however my other half has put a not unreasonable question that careful selection of a part built project even with the wrong engine combo may be a better way to go as the hassle of donor car rusting in the drive while you strip and try to dispose of old shell does nothing to endear you to your neighbours is a pain. I hope you good folk debating this with us but I value your thoughts

Re: new or part built?

Part built is the way to go if you can find what you are looking for, not only do you get away from scrap on the drive you also get the package cheaper. Even if you strip if down to the bare chassis and start again which is not a bad idea its time only. Have a good old search around and compare new to part built costs, its well worth it but lots of others are after the same bargain.

As for posting an ad, sure you can post if you go to the classifieds section.

Re: new or part built?

I’ve just done exactly that, well actually it was a garage full of bits that the seller swore had once been on the road, and I’m sure most of them had but no necessarily in the same vehicle! I think that if you want to build it yourself as I did, this can be a much cheaper option, but it’s a bit like a Lucky Bag you are never quite sure what’s inside, you could be lucky and all the parts have been reconditioned and its just ready to put together (but if that’s the case why didn’t they complete the project?) or it could be a bag of sh*t where everything needs stripping and fixing. If you are up for a challenge, prepared to compromise and hope for a bargain go for it, but if you want ‘your’ car to be just the way ‘you’ want it, it might be best to start from scratch.:thumb:

I've got a few years on you Kev and I can read it just fine in fact on my M/C its larger font than the one you are using!! However, always pleased to help, what size font would you like me to use in future?

One like this

Or this

Or this

But if you need this one I suggest a visit to the optician!!

Re: new or part built?

Steve, we exchanged e-mails but what I haven't mentioned is the source of my donor stuff. I have a Sierra up at AVS scrap yard (on the main road through Colden Common). I bought it for 100 quid, and Barney the owner is happy to keep it there and let me go and take the parts I need off. He'll then keep the rest and sell it for more cash. So, it true management speak its a win-win situation.
My Sierra is kept out the back so no one else can get bits off.
He did offer to deliver to my house, then collect the leftovers FOC, but with the suspension, and hence no wheels left, he'd have to drag it up onto his lorry, which would've bu99ered my drive.
I'm sure he'd be happy to do this again, especially for a pint in the Dog & Crook.

BTW, anyone else spent the entire day sweating ? 42 overs fielding, followed by 20 odd overs batting! I'm sure I'm getting too old for this sporting stuff.
But then that hissing noise you all heard about 8:30 was the first pint of 1664 not touching the sides !

Rich 12-3-40-3 , 86* not a bad day really !
