Seat Belt Harnesses & SVA

Trying to figure out what seat belt harnesses to get but of course there are so many.

I know that 'E' Approved ones are requred for the SVA and they use the standard release mechanism.

However, I have seen harnesses on Cobras that use the aircraft style quick release mechanism and according to a person at Willans, these are not 'E' Approved because of this mechanism. Instead they are FIA rated which is different. Will FIA rated harnesses pass the SVA just as well as 'E' Approved ones?

Many Thanks...

Hi Iain,

I have Sabelt harnesses with the catch your talking about.

Roy at the Derby SVA centre allowed them through because of the FIA label on them. But that doesnt mean all centres will.

Steve.

my willans aircraft style passed ok with no markings, think its purely down to how different examiners rate the satety of them

Re: Seat Belt Harnesses & SVA

Does appear a bit bonkers if a race spec four point harness will fail where a standard road going lap/shoulder belt passes.

But then as we all know the SVA is quite a lot bonkers.

Dont try to understand it just work around it. I'm fitting 3 point inertia belts for SVA and occasional use, and Willens 4 point at some time in the future.

Re: Seat Belt Harnesses & SVA

The GD supplied Willans harnesses are not FIA approved. I spoke to Willans and they said it's because GD specify a narrower shoulder strap (2" instead of 3", I think) because it looks neater. I don't think anyone has had problems getting them through SVA...
