RE: cobra replica

Kev, you need to keep your eye on teh classified ads in the Kit Car Mags and in SnakeTorque the CRC Club Mag - if you have not yet joined you should - well worthwhile.

In the May edition of Kit Car mag there was the following advertised:
Cobra Classic Replica Viper
Rolling Chassis and Body, windscreen, seats and more - all new 302 Mustang engine, new Tremec gearbox. Over £9000 spent Mortgage forces sale £6500 ovno Tel Christchurch 01202 473449

You need to take care when buying part built kits thogh. If they are older you may have some issues (not insurmountable though) that you need to address to get the finished car through its SVA (you should read up on the SVA anyway). You also want to make sure that you get all the recipts and donor vehicle details and log book ideally from the person selling the kit. If the kit is no longer in production (as is teh case with teh Viper I believe) then make sure you have all teh unique parts or that you will be able to make them. I don't personally know teh Viper but others on this site will do.

Good luck and happy hunting.

RE: cobra replica

I aggree with the above. Best place to look is both the kit car magazines. Kit Car and Which Kit. Look for the July issue. Both mags are due out about now.

I can't see how you could get a quality kit that was an un-finished project though. I for one am about 80% there with my build. There is absolutely NO WAY ON THIS EARTH that I won't finish it.

People are different. Me... I'm absolutely determined to finish it. But if it is a kit with a good reputation then they are so easy to put together that to finish it is not a problem. Therefore, if you do see one unfinished, ask yourself and the seller WHY???

RE: cobra replica

You could also look on the Dax website, they advertise part builds.

An alternative to buying part built would be to buy a cheap but tatty V8 motored car then strip and rebuild it. Probably much cheaper than building new and you could achieve the same result much quicker. Simon on this site was selling a RAM/Rover engined car (don't know if he still is) for I think 9K complete, registered and road worthy etc. Bit of a bargain I would have thought and ripe, for strip and re-build.

RE: cobra replica

For "Unfinished Kit" read " Completely botched" .

I bought an "unfinished" kit as my first kit car and spent many happy days stripping and redoing what had been done before..basically you will have to redo all that has already been done.......so why not start with a "clean" build to begin with, as Vince says if the guy hasnt finished its cos he cant or hasnt the skills or aptitude required......everything he has done in the past will have to be redone properly...... in the long run it will cost you more time and energy to finish a part completed car then build a new one fron scratch....

Just my 2 cents worth.....

Cheers,
Tony
