Save the British GP petition

You can sign it at http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns13598.html

Personally, no thank you! Until GP racing gets back to looking like racing rather than a glamour parade it is not worth bothering

Re: Save the British GP petition

I love GP racing and have been to Silverstone on a few ocasions.

However, the thought of any taxpayers money being spent to keep the GP makes me so mad

I am all for the government funding sports at grass roots level to assist new talent but why should we all fund a sport that clearly is bl**dy rich already. The problem in the sport is greed and until Bernie and the Teams work this out we should all tell them to knob off to wherever they want to go. :finger: :finger: :finger:

All of the governments should stop subsidising the races, then every country would be in the same position as Britain. This would force Bernie and the teams to think sensibly about building a strong Formula at all levels for all involved.

Rant over

Re: Save the British GP petition

I have absolutely no wish for any of my tax pennies to go towards making Bernie any richer, which lets face it is all he is interested in. F1 is boring as hell anyway, so perhaps its days are numbered as car enthusiasts look at more interesting ways of spending Sunday afternoons.

A global Touring Car championship would be worth watching in my opinion.

Cheers,

Tony

Re: Save the British GP petition

I agree no thankyou, I've been at the BGP nearly every year for the last 20 years (as a marsall) so I got the 3 day tickets free. I certainly wouldn't have paid for them.
When you look at the state of the facilities at Silverstone they are a joke, scaffold grandstands etc. minimal toilet facilities.
OK the road access has just been massively improved largely at public expense.
You compare it with Rockingham which is superb. :thumb:

The BRDC need to wake up and smell the coffee, dip into their large pockets put a world class circuit and facilities in place and encourage people to go by charging a reasonable ticket price. :finger:
It's cheaper to go to several of the European GPs including the transport than it is to go to Silverstone.

OK a darkened room is required to chill now.

Re: Save the British GP petition

Hi,

As an occasional watcher of GP F1 I would have to say that it is spoiled by the technical & financial dominance of a few top teams, but I guess that is unavoidable in any sport.

I would be disgusted if any taxpayers money was used to subsidise a sport that is filthy rich and overpaid to begin with. Most of the top UK drivers and team bosses don't contribute to the UK tax coffers anyway.

I would much rather see money going to local circuits to encourage more GT sportscar and classic racing.

Chris

Re: Save the British GP petition

<bleep!> to Bernie and his greed! He's clearly trying to screw Silverstone for everything they've got. And he'll do it again next year and the year after that. Call his bluff! Let him take the GP elsewhere for a year! Tell him to <bleep!> off and invest in the sport instead of growing his <bleep!>ing personal fortune.

Can I join you in that dark room now please?

Re: Save the British GP petition

I agree, Bernie should stump up the cash!

How many million is he worth? and how much of it has come from us?

My advice to Bernie would be "don't bite the hand that feeds you".

BRDC should tell him to shove it up his ar3e, then maybe some of the other countries will do the same next year and the sport will change for the better!

Bah!!!

Neil.

Re: Save the British GP petition

It makes no difference to Bernie if we have a Grand Prix in this country or not, wherever it is held he still gets to pocket the dosh as he controls the sport. He has become a Billionaire through Formula 1 (about 2.5 billion i think). But that isn't the point he is making, Kev Davies summed it up in his post perfectly,Silverstone is a joke and needs to pull it's finger out and bring it up to the standards that are being set by other countries. If that means we lose the British Grand prix then so be it. Anyway it'll only be for a year as London will be hosting it in the future.
Miles
p.s. F1 is boring anyway!

Re: Save the British GP petition

I think Eccleston has a cheek..!!! He makes millions from all the GP, but Britain is where 7 of the 10 teams are based. What sort of GP season will it be without a British GP...

Not saying it has to be at Silverstone, just in Britain.

Silverstone is a bugger to get to when 100,000 people want to go there, so the British Government spent millions and 2 years of road works and upgrades to make it so that Silerstone is more accessible to mass crowds, mainly especially for F1... And the year after it is finished, Eccleston says that he is not having it there..!! I too would tell him to take his roadhsow elsewhere..

Wait until the UK teams have all pulled out because there aint a British GP... Then where is the greedy git gonna earn his money from...

London should never be a GP location. It is too dangerous, too many close walls, ready for someone to die... and yes, Monaco should be stopped for the same reason....

Re: Save the British GP petition

No need to worry about wicked uncle Bernie, he'll survive.
there's loads of countries out there just waiting to fill his coffers, and he knows it.
Especially the ones where he get shed loads of tobacco revenue from the advertising.
It's the British fans I feel for.
