Brake Problems

Hello guy's

I have filled brake resevior for the first time tonight...and bled each calliper in turn untill fluid comes out of bleed nipple.....No Problem!!

Back brakes work (cant turn wheel round with brake on).....but fronts....not working at all.

When i was bleeding the rears..i noticed that the pedal travelled 'further' than when doing the fronts!!!!

Has anyone had similar problems??

Only thing i can think of is that front calliper pistons are seized!!.....any other ideas??

thanks guy's.........steve

Re: Brake Problems

Your observation about pedal travel leads me to think that you still have air in the front system. If the calipers were seized and the system fully bled the pedal would be very solid and you would get less travel while bleeding the rears. Alternatively the master cylinder is assembled wrongly and is not pressurising the front circuit at all. I assume that it is dual circuit?

Re: Brake Problems

Have you got a pressure limiting valve in the circuit anywhere?

Re: Brake Problems

Of course it is, you have the same car!! If you bleed the fronts on there own (back circuit left open) the pedal should be quite firm, especially if the calipers are seized. If not, look for an air lock somewhere. I used one of those beeding devices that pressurises the system using a spare tyre and they are very good.

Re: Brake Problems

I also used a Gunsons Ezibleed. I didnt fill the container with fluid though, as from past experience if the seal on the cap is not 100% when you first connect up to the spare wheel, Fluid goes everywhere It's amazing how much more air I got out when using it, even though I already thought the pedal was good :thumb:

Re: Brake Problems

Totally agree Chris...but after i used the 'easy'solution.....i did actuall re-bleed each corner by the 'old fashioned method'.......no air coming out.only fluid.....but still no brake!!!

Re: Brake Problems

What is the state of the master cylinder then, is it new?

Re: Brake Problems

Sorry Steve we were obviously typing at the same time I think I've got to go with Myles on the master cylinder problem It seems unlikely that all 8 front pistons are seized
