My Alternator

Had an evening tonight playing with my alternator....

Mine was already new but I saw a cheap chrome casing going on ebay, so got it for $20 plus $20 postage...

Dismantled my alternator (never done this before) and put all the bits into the new chrome casing... All looked easy....

Had to press in with my vice bearings at each end of the shaft, but that was relatively easy...

Once all the main parts were in I had these 2 carbon bushes that needed to both be put back into their slots before the main shaft went back in... Spent quite a while figuring out how I was going to do that... Not easy as my hand and the shaft were not going to be in there together at the same time...

Anyway, I noticed that there was a hole in each bush... and a hole in the casing... so put a pin in there to hold the bushes in place..... but... how would i get the pin out afterwards..??? no matter how many things I tried, was proving dificult.... After a lot more thinking I thoug, why dont I drill a hole in the casing so that the pin could be inserted from the outside of the alternator..!!! ha ha... there was already a hole there for this very thing...

So, knowing what you are doing... An alternator swap should only take 20 mins tops.... and not the 3 hours it took me... lol...

easy really..!!!

Alternator looks the dogs danglies though...!!!

Cheers

Carl..
