Replacement Cam

Hi,

I've reacently managed to get my car back on the road after fixing a snapped rocker bar and it was tunning great after I'd re-set all the valve lash.

But then I started hearing noises from lower down and it seems that a big end has gone.

So since I'm taking the engine out I thought I'd replace the cam and valve gear. I'm planning on using Dove roller rockers bu I was wondering on what cam profile to use
Im looking for something that will give me good street perfomance, I don't need a hot rod

Any suggestions?

Engine is 428FE

Thanks

Paul

Re: Replacement Cam

Hi Paul,

Unlucky on the big end, maybe some contamination from the breakage.?

Out of interest I had a on Comp Cams website and Crane's, Comp Cam's dont have a hydraulic roller camshaft for your engine although they will do custom grinds.

Crane cam's have a couple one looks like a track piece the other is this one

http://www.cranecams.com/?show=brows...tType=camshaft

If you specifically want roller lifters then you may have to look at mechanical instead or hydraulic or stick with flat tappet hydraulic so you have more choice of grinds.

Re: Replacement Cam

Hi,

According to George at Gessford Comp Cams do have hydrolic for FEs but I'm planning on staying with mechanical in any case I think (the current one is mechanical).

I'm not going to go for roller lifters since apparently you have to look at them and maybe change them after a few thousand miles (5 ish I think) But I am planning on roller tipped rockers like the Dove ones.

I think my big end going is due to a bad rebuild by preveous owner!
Heck! They couldn't even get the lash right! It was at between 13 an 17 and should have been up at 20 - 22! That's what may have broken my rocker bar! Who knows what other mess ups they made!

Oh well! It was a good excuse to the misses to put in some new valve gear and cam. :thumb:

Re: Replacement Cam

Paul - Whatever George Anderson at Gessford says...............do it.

There is no finer FE expert in the world.

Re: Replacement Cam

Thanks Wilf,

He was very helpfull last time. I've just got to get the engine out (with help from someone that knows what they are doing!) and work out what has gone wrong. I don't think there should be too much damage as you could only just hear some odd noises.

BTW whats this about you selling your car?

Are you building another one?

Paul
