latest on goodwrench block

The goodwrench block I got from a cobra club member was found to have a bore of 4.034" not 4.030".the wall clearance for pistons are on the pistons ,not in the bore. Ken coleman is to machine bore to 4.040" K.B.pistons on order. The seller has offered to pay 50% of cost to put it right, what a nice man to deal with.
Peter.

Re: latest on goodwrench block

It may have been honed for Forged Pistons, they require a slightly bigger bore, hence the rattles till they warm up, check out the requirements with your piston provider, they often need a slightly over sized bore.

Worth doing before you open it up again, reducing wall thickness and requiring a new set of pistons.

The JE forged pistons in my 383 required the bores to be honed out above 4.030", if memory serves correctly I think it was another 0.002"

James

From what I hear if Ken Coleman is involved with the work on this Engine you wont have any worries at all, as he has forgotten more than most of us will ever know about thees Engines. :thumb:

Re: latest on goodwrench block

wot the fooks happenin this guy is talkin bout pistons and you talkin bout the colour of your snake!!!!!!!!!!!!!the man with the block,,, wots happend here wether you or the man who sold you the block agrees is that u bin sold a pup. most goodwrench blocks that come into this country are on standard borer thats cos they aint had enought life to warrant a rebore.. there fore if you got a goodwrench and unless the casting numbers and dates match.. usually 10066398 ,,1990 onwards for late single piece rear that meads the block had hard life, however 004 thou clearance is just a little large even for forged pistons and contrary to poular belief.. depending on whos pistons designates clearance usually in the bore not the slug... unless u using je forgings then its a custom bore......
