Kit build insurance

Hi Guys,

Need to get some insurance as the cost of the parts in the gargage is getting quite significant and been told that household insurance does not provide cover.

Apart from Backfords is there any other company offering kit build insurance cover.

Who provide the most competitive prices.

Re: Kit build insurance

Hi
We are with Adrian Flux, but I have heard that they are not the best at paying up, but since we have never made a claim, we can not confirm this.

Re: Kit build insurance

Martin,

Do Sureterm cover the build process? Most companies that I was able to contact only provided cover for when the car was on the road.

Re: Kit build insurance

Hi,

I have had cover for mine since collecting the chassis & body with MSM. It is an agreed value policy that you can increase as you go along (and increase the premium obviously).

Also you can add in-transit cover, the original reason I took the cover, this protects you if something happens whilst transporting Chassis, body etc.

You can also transfer the policy to normal insurance later when the car has gone through SVA or get a discount.

Regards
Chris

ps I have never made a claim though

Re: Kit build insurance

Just had a shock whilst getting a quote from Backford Bloor - they want £240 for build insurance and over £900 for road insurance!!! I know I'm under 30 but that seems a little extreme for 3000 miles...

Re: Kit build insurance

Robin,

I, as an oldish fart, was quoted £510 or £580 including SHMBO, who is also under 30 for 3000mpa . Footman James i think. Might be worth a try.

One other thing i've found, the cost of the kit is around 29k, perhaps as high as 35k for some people who have monster engines, chargers, nitros etc, but most kit car 'agreed value' insurance tops out at 25k.

Re: Kit build insurance

Our build insurance is £56, Adrian Flux gave us a prelim quote for on the road of £395, covering us both fully comp, when we had the robin hood it was £205 with a restriction of 8k miles a year.

Re: Kit build insurance

Just got off the phone with Backford Bloor. Have insured the car for £230.75, build cover only. The road cover is less than they told me previously, which is encouraging.

Just waiting for my Premier Wiring Systems order to come in and then I can fire this bugger up!!
