Ford V Chevy

OK apart from personal preferences, dizzy at wrong end etc., is there any major differences between a Ford 5.7 and a Chevy 5.7, i.e power, torque, weight, ease of sourcing parts, gearbox choices etc? :thumb:

You don`t have to be mental to build a kitcar - but it definitely helps.

Historically, the Chevy has had the best after market parts service within the UK, this was due to the prevalence of Chevy kit within the hot rod scene.

However, given the wide spread use of the internet, and the fact you can get spares within a couple of days from the US, this is now no longer so much of an issue.

If built correctly, both engines can provide the same levels of HP and torque as they use the same process to produce the power.

It is six of one and half a dozen of the other now.

Hope this helps, and thanks to Dave for the diplomacy pills. :thumb:

Re: Ford V Chevy

The shallowest reason is that if you have a Ford engine in your kit car and someone asks "What engine has it got mate" and you say "Ford" they will probably say "2L Pinto or a V6 mate" and then you'll have to go through the whole proceedure of telling them (Without sounding like you are bragging) that it is an American Ford V8. Whereas if they ask and you just answer "Chevy" they'll just say "Wow" and the wow factor will not have deminished while you were lecturing them on American engines.
And The second shallowest reason is because Chevy's are better.

Re: Ford V Chevy

I find the easiest answer when someone asks what engine it is, is "A Big B****d" Saves any confusion

Re: Ford V Chevy

I was curious as to whether one had more torque but less bhp ability than the other or whether the parts and ease to "tune" was different but it seems from the above answers that it purely is down to personal choice. Thanks for the replies guys (TFTRG) :thumb:

Re: Ford V Chevy

hi tony
it is down to personnel choice, i will throw a spanner in the works , and say that the best small block ever produced was a oldsmobile , large bore and shorter stroke. thats what i run in my cobra. however it would have been cheeper to go chevy, had i known at the time
