registration?

I am thinking of buying a dax that was first registered in 1996. But it is still registered as a jag sports. Could anyone tell me what, if any, problems i may encounter? Thanks.
Glyn.

Re: registration?

The DVLA might, repeat might look kindly on it, but that is the best possible case.

The worst case is that it will have to be SVA'd, which is a pain, and a potentially significant cost as you will have to change parts of the car to meet SVA specification.

My advice would be to walk away, unless the seller is prepared to do the leg work to get it registered correctly.

Re: registration?

Thanks for the info. How would the DVLA find out that the car is registered wrongly? Do the problems arise if the car was involved in an accident? ie not covered?

Re: registration?

When they computerise the MOT Stations, this issue will come up and the MOT agent could refuse to MOT the car and advise DVLA of the discrepancies with the document (V5)

Re: registration?

Check the documentation carefully. Robert's advice is very good but there are also oddball situations out there.

My 289 was inspected by the DVLA some years ago; I have a letter from them telling me I can keep the 1963 registration no. and that from henceforth it will be an MG Cobra Mk II. This is what it says on the V5.
I have never had any problems to date.
