Most Careless Thing!!!!!!!

Whats the daftest thing you have done when you inevitably say I should have done that.
*****----*******
I have just dropped the distributor hold don clamp nut down the shaft orrifice, ad I guess its in the sump somewhere no. I was looking forward to timing my distributor today and now its going to be a sump off job at least.

Obviously I should have covered the hole first, but I dont know how many times i have said I should have been on the cautious side. Dont think I will ever learn.

Re: Most Careless Thing!!!!!!!

Maybe this sounds as stupid as your thingy...

When I disassembled my rear Ford Scorpio suspension, one of the axle ends came out of the wheel hub as if it was meant to be so... then I tried the other end, but it seemed to be stuck... "well that's weird" I thaught... and started hammering on a the end until suddenly "plop", the whole bearing broke.

Stupid things happen to newbies I guess... replacing those bearings costed me about 100 euro per side... so I left the front for what it was .

Re: Most Careless Thing!!!!!!!

Well looks like there are only two of us.

After taking the sump off and spending about 4 hours upside down in a gap about 300mm tall fiddling around the engine( it wasnt in the sump) I couldn't find it.

One last thought was that as it fell down the hole it did an acrobatic flik flak and dived into the lifter valley. Impossible I know, but where else to look.

On taking off the manifold it was there, right at the opposit end to the distributur hole. If I tried to do that again I would say its impossible. Need to put my sump back on now and as for the mini starter with a kicked out sump - nice weekend ahead. But at least I have found it.

Happy New Year everybody.

Come back Wilf - this lot are all a bit quiet
