Re: Ford 302 Flywheel, what to buy!

Hi guys, it's good to see that I'm not the only on having this problem.

I want to fix a Tremec TKO500 to a 1992 Ford 5.0 HO engine (302 ci). It used to have an automatic transmission with 164 teeth. In the summit catalogue I can only find 157 teeth flywheels for the 92 Mustangs.

Does this mean that if I take a 87-93 Mustang bellhousing, it's automatically suited for the 157 teeth flywheel and my starter motor will fit as well?

Which type of Fords use the 157 teeth flywheels and which types use the 164 teeth? Is this marked on the bellhousing or are there any indications at all to identify the two versions?

Please help!

Cheers

Re: Ford 302 Flywheel, what to buy!

The starter bolts directly to the bell housing so this means this is what determines the size of flywheel that you need. As for the out of balance 50oz or 24oz that will be determined by the harmonic balancer , if the engine used to have a auto this means you will have to get another bell housing with the gearbox that is what is going to determine the flywheel you need.

But if you are going to get an adaptor plate from Ken then if you have a 157 tooth flywheel and have a 164tooth bell housing he can make an adaptor plate so that the starter will fit OK HTH
