petrol tank probs

hi there.

I was just wondering if there was some kind of mod i could do to the petrol tank to stop the car juddering when cornering hard and the tank isnt full (ie all the petrol gets pushed to one side and none is fed to the engine briefly.)

This can be very annoying when trying to overtake someone.

ive got a GD427 with a bored out 3.9 litre Rover V8 and jag chassis

thanks in advance,

ben

Also, mechanical or electric pump, etc etc.

I had 2 take-offs, one either side on my old mechanical set-up and didn't experience and los of fuel flow.

Sorry to correct, but those are exhausts. :thumb:

Some systems run a return, some don't.

My original engine only had a single feed, and didn't have a problem with cutting out, however I did get surge problems within the carb, however saying that, the bowls on a Holley are quite large so any interruptions to fuelling wouldn't have been noticed.

The reason I dumped the Edelbrock for the original Holley

Re: petrol tank probs

My cut-off picture showed 2 flow lines. The original picture showed the return line going into the top of the tank. I would have thought that there would have always been enough fuel in the lower part of the tank where it's shaped to fit the floor so there would be no problem. Obviously not as some tanks have a flow from both sides. I liked the quip when the original picture was posted ... someone going overboard with flashline removal!

Re: petrol tank probs

Sorry, I can't offer any experience of fuel starvation issues - not on the road yet

But when putting the fuel tank in, I examined it and the baffles that are inserted to a standard fuel tank with only a LHS feed (see original photo with positions of baffles marked)

I would have thought that these would would be suffiecient to stop any fuel starvartion on all but the longest/fastest bends with the thirstiest engines ??

Re: petrol tank probs

Hi,

I can only comment that I have had my car for 5 years, have a single outlet, to an external electric pump sitting just the otherside of the tank (outside), to a pressure regulator in the engine bay and have never experienced juddering even when the tank was very low. I have also done quite a few track days etc with hard cornering and again never had juddering. I was wondering if your float levels are too low in the carbs and that is causing it?

Cheers

Alastair
