Front Pulleys/damper etc.

Thinking about front pulleys and damper length.

Given that my 72 ford 302 currently has no alternator or bracket, I aim to use an electric water pump and I have to buy a new damper. Am I limited to the same damper length that I have removed or can I choose what I want? Is the position of the alternator set by something on the block which is unique to my engine year?

Or am I best buying the damper and alternator/bracket that fits my engine year?

Any advice as usual gratefully received!

Cheers

Andy

Re: Front Pulleys/damper etc.

Andy
the position of alternator pulley is set by the crankshaft pulley/water pump.
As you're using an electric pump the water pump one is out of the equation so whatever crank pulley you're using will determine alternator one.Be sure you have enough clearance etc for alternator mounting and crank pulley to steering rack.
Regards
Gareth

Re: Front Pulleys/damper etc.

Hi there you could look at serpentine type pully's as you can then mount the alternator anywhere (obviously in line with the pully) and use an idler to tension it
cheers
