| Re: Where's the Engine Number? As I understand it, its normally stamped into the block - drivers side (ours, not yank) at the front end of the car, there's a lip (upward facing) in front of the head on that side. Pic explains better than me! The number should be there, but if the block's been skimmed the number will be missing - that was the case with mine. My engine is from the Engine Factory - don't know if yours is or not - if it is, there might be a plate attached to the lower left side of the block ahead of the mount that has a six digit number on it - DVLA were happy enough with that in my case. Alternatively, stamp a number into the correct place. Andy

| Re: Where's the Engine Number? Hi Russ. You do not need to list the Chevy engine as being fitted into your Jag.(Plus they are clamping down on this loophole due to all the Super 7's that are being registeres from fireblade powered Sierras) You only need two of the following 6 items to have come from the Jag to qualify for an age related plate. 1. Body and chassis (No good there) 2. Steering mechanism. (You could use this) 3. Axles front and rear (deffinately use this) 4. Engine (like I said, no need to use) 5. Transmission (You could get awaqy with this if it was a manual Jag) 6. Suspension (You can use this (suspension is anything that moves up and down, not just springs and shocks))

| Re: Where's the Engine Number? Russ I'm building a Dax De Dion, and am in exactlly the same situation, no engine number and was going to buy some stamps to put one on myself. However, in view of Dave's response will be interested to know which route you decide to follow. What do Dax themselves suggest? Dave if you were to go the Transmission route would they not notice that it is a Tremec box rather than the original Jag one? Thanks Mike |

| Re: Where's the Engine Number? Russ, Mike, I'd point out that, as far as I'm aware, you still need an engine number for registration with the DVLA. They do seem to accept anything though - I guess it just needs to be unique - so you can stamp something on - or, as I did, find a number that happens to be on there that seems unique. On the gearbox front, they wanted receipts for everything - so the receipt showed a new Tremec box. I guess if you have a receipt that says the car included the Jag. box, etc., they'd take it? They accepted the receipts for the reconditioning bits in conjunction with my V5C for my running gear, as I'd paid cash at the scrappy for the original stuff. Andy

| Re: Where's the Engine Number? The people at the registration office will walk over to your car look at the chassis no. then ask you where the engine no. is and you either show them or tell them that it doesn't have one. That is it. They then wobble off inside to their cozy office and sort out the paperwork. The people at the registration office are not mechanics, they are office based civil servantsd(Bless 'em) Std chassis, De Dion chassis, doesn't matter. On the V627 form all you need to put down as donor parts are Axles and steering and that's it you qualify for an age related plate. There is no battle of wits, These are their rules. If you bought something from a breakers and do not have a receipt then get a mate to scribble on on the back of a fag packet (I didn't tell you that) this is all you need unless you are going for a new reg. and then you will need receipts for all 6 items and all but one must be brand new and the other must be reconditioned to an "as new" condition. I don't know how Dax do it , chances are their info could be somewhat out of data as they don't build that many cars and those that they do build all go onto new registrations...........I average one at least every three weeks. You do not need to take a shoe box full of receipts with you for the registration, only the ones for the 6 items listed on the form. And if a number of these items have come from the donor car then the V5 for that car will do (And it does not need to be registered in your name (Although you should really do that anyway)). Good luck and don't panic.

| Re: Where's the Engine Number? I stand corrected Dave. I was only going by my experience at Brighton. But then, as you say, they're civil servants, not mechanics. The chap doing my paperwork didn't have a clue, he had to phone head office to find out what to do. And I'd taken all my receipts on a just in case basis - he said he wasn't sure whether the V5 was sufficient so took some from Ward's Engineering too. He told me I needed to be able to show the inspector the VIN and engine numbers (it wasn't him doing it). I had to make an appointment for the inspection, and take the car to Brighton for it. The inspector turned out to be a young woman (younger than me - I'm 23) who actually knew something about cars! Does alot of imports, apparently. Having sorted out the engine number I duly let her lie under the car to have a look Andy
