GDJAG Brake Fluid

Hi Guys, having trouble finding out which brake fluid to use. No reply from Wards who reconditioned the axles for me. Seems like Jaguars need a mineral based fluid. Nearest thing I've found so far is LHM+. Anybody gotta clue? Thanks and regards, Trigger.

Re: GDJAG Brake Fluid

Trig,

What on earth makes you think Jags use mineral fluid in the braking system? Any of the normal DOT universal fluids are fine.

Bleeding - any car - always furthest to nearest. ie N/S/R, O/S/R (although these are probably in series on most Cobs - so only one nipple), N/S/F, O/S/F for a RHD car. You'll still have to go round a couple of times anyway for a freshly filled system

Russ

Re: GDJAG Brake Fluid

Thanks for the answer Russ! I read it on a couple of containers of brake fluid in a motoring shop. Two different makes both saying not suitable for Rolls, Citroen and Jaguar which need a mineral based fluid. So it's any DOT fluid, 3, 4 or 5.1, synthetic or not but not silicone? Regards Trigger.

Cheers Russ

New pads a lot better, but still suffering from long pedal travel before they bite, can't figure it as I have bled them as you suggest, they are solid till I start the engine and the servo kicks in, the they go virtually to the floor.

Mike.

Did pads, shoes and wheel cylinders on the van a couple of weeks ago, Pressure bled them three times but still had a very poor pedal. It took a couple of hundred miles till they bedded in and the pedal came back up

Re: GDJAG Brake Fluid

I have had silicone fluid in since I built the car (all Jag brakes) and have had no problems with that.

As for the order of bleeding the brakes: it can be done any time after completing the plumbing and before driving the car!

Re: GDJAG Brake Fluid

I also used silicone from the beginning (new system) ten years ago. System has been flushed since on two occassions. No problems. Re leeidng, I agree Russ's advice. I always follow this route on my car with no probs whatsoever.
