Exhaust headers

Does anybody know where i can source stainless mandrel pulled bends and collectors to fabricate a pair of headers? They must be 1-5/8" diameter, I can find people who can supply 1-1/2" or 1-3/4" bends, and even full manifold kits (custom chrome), but not 1-5/8". Failing that, how are people finding the performance of small block chevy (350-400hp) with 1-1/2 or 1-3/4 primaries?

Re: Exhaust headers

Don't use 1 1/2" they are too small for anything bigger than a Rover (Upto 5.0L)
The 1 3/4" will be fine for your Chevy and will be good for upto 500BHP.

Re: Exhaust headers

I believe the place to go for stainless tube work is the dairy industry. Sorry I can't be more specific, but with that as a starting point, the 'web should turn something up for you.

Re: Exhaust headers

Rich, I have looked into this a bit now as I am going to build my own headers as well. Dairy pipe is not an option if you are going with 1 3/4" as it only comes in whole and half sizes. 1 3/4" is relatively easy to find, UKF stainless in Bromsgrove do it and I'm picking some up on Saturday, £75 for 6m of straight, all in!

ABC metals in stoke do the header flanges and elbows but havn't priced these yet.

As soon as I find out more I'll post it.

Good luck, we'll need it

Re: Exhaust headers

Remind me never to listen to anybody who tells me fabricating manifolds is easy, its taken me about 2 months of bodging about to get them about right. Next time I will pay the money!!!

Re: Exhaust headers

Just made my own headers 1"5/8 O/D RV8 not an easy job I must say, not a task I would like to do again in a hurry but at least I now have a pattern for some-one else to fabricate next time.

Had side pipes 5", shields, front pipe and connector made by Tube Engineers Arbgraft works (Newtoft) Newtoft NR Market Rasen Linc's LN8 3WA. 01673 862286: What a brilliant job Mike made of them and at a price I could not believe, very reasonable Osgood

Re: Exhaust headers

Morning Richc

A friend of mine used this place when he made exhausts for his Porsche 912

http://www.milneroffroad.com/PIPE.HTM

Only seem to sell bends in 1" , 1.5" , 2" , 2.5" and 3" though

Craig.
