Stuck Clutch

OK, i've now got the brakes fixed but the clutch is either:

A) stuck, or

B) not disengaging

Having never had it actually working i dont know if the whole setup pushes the arm far enough to disengage the clutch but the plate is stuck after 6 months of being clamped together OR the arm doesn't fully disengage the plate.

The pedal has lots of pressure from the top right down to the bottom of the throw so something must be moving, but it aint going to disengage.

Before i try the old 'start the engine with it in gear and on stands, then with the clutch down, rev it, stamp on the brakes' approach, anyone got any ideas?

(Its the Repower Tremec 3550 TKO package with hi-performance clutch plate, slave cylinder etc.)

Re: Stuck Clutch

See if you still have the 40mm-ish throw at the slave.

If you do, your clutch plate is stuck.

I am, of course, assuming that it did work OK at some point.

Re: Stuck Clutch

Wilf,

I'll have a rummage around under the car with SWMBO pressing the clutch tomorrow to see how far the arm moves. (it's adjusted so the first few mm of movement contact the release bearing, so any further movement will be compressing the release plate*)

(* Assuming i've put it togther correctly )

Re: Stuck Clutch

John,

Distinctly remember the plate saying 'engine side' or words to that effect and was fitted accordingly, so unless i had some kind of mental episode, its not that. :thumb:

Re: Stuck Clutch

If you happen across Bristol and see a bloke walking around with a face like a child in a sweet shop with his dad's credit card, that'll be me.

Having checked the throw on the release arm (4-5cm) i implemented Plan A.

Started in 4th Gear (on stands), hard on the clutch, revved the bugger and yanked the hand brake on. Sorted.

(I had horrible visions of body off / engine out scenarios for a few days)
