| Where to find small brake boosters (hydraulic or vacuum) Hi! I'm working on a cobra project, and I'm "eyeshopping" for parts. And now I'm looking around for different brake boosters and master cylinders. First of all, the brakes I'm using are from a '90 Corvette (front and rear) and I believe that it's master cylinder is 1" (or close to), second of all it's damn tight between the firewall and the wheel 1) I believe its unreliable (it often brakes down, there are all sorts of posts on the boards about how much trouble they are and how to convert to vacuum assisted brake solutions) 2) I'm uncertain about the MC bore size... I've also noticed that some 80'ish BMW's had hydraulic assisted brakes, but I haven't done any deeper research on those... Now, I can't be the only one with this problem (lack of space for power assisted brakes) in a cobra? What solutions have you other guys come up with?

| Re: Where to find small brake boosters (hydraulic or vacuum) Hi Piglet. The BMW 5 series Hydraulic booster was not small and leaked. I think Bowtie has linked a 1" mitsubushi master to a toyota starlet servo (small) Another option is a Lockheed remote servo, It can be mounted almost anywhere. And used to assist the front circuit. http://www.eaglekitcars.co.uk/How%20To/RemoteServo.pdf :thumb:

| Re: Where to find small brake boosters (hydraulic or vacuum) Hi Chris, Thanks for the reply! Hmm, OK thanks for the input on the BMW boosters, seems like most of the hydraulic boosters suffers some kind of problem (my Audi S4 also has a hydraulic booster, and it's on its way down hill aswell after 160.000 km). Yes I did see something about a toyota starlet servo matched to a mitsu. MC, I wonder what the overall length of that contraption would be... Maybe I'll send Bowtie (is that his username) a PM! Thanks for the input on the remote boosters, thats also an alternative, altough I need a dual circuit setup... So I either have to go with dual boosters (as if isn't tight enough under the hood?), or a booster design for dual circuits (I've found some in the states, but they're kinda pricy)... Any more sugestions ?

| Re: Where to find small brake boosters (hydraulic or vacuum) Hans, check your inbox, for the rest of you, my setup with the Toyota Starlet booster and 1" Mitsubishi master cylinder meassures: Booster = 9 cm length, 17 cm in diameter. Master cylinder = 15 cm length. There are other 1" master cylinders that fit the Toyota Starlet booster. Check Japanese cars with 6 cylinder, 3 liter engines. Seems like most of them carry 1" master cylinders. Then check length of the cylinder and that the bolt pattern is the same as on the booster. / Bowtie

| Re: Where to find small brake boosters (hydraulic or vacuum) Ps. I still had to make a hole in my inner wing (AK style) to be able to fit my "contraption". I did find even shorter 1" cylinders at the junk yard but that was after I had rebuilt the Mitsubishi one... Hans, Volvo Amazon had a remote servo setup (and so did the P1800, Mini Cooper etc. if I remember right). Check your local junk yard (where in Sweden after all)... ![]() / Bowtie

| Re: Where to find small brake boosters (hydraulic or vacuum) SVC do a dual remote vacuum servo for about 225.00. Don't know if they work yet as car not finished; anybody used them? Cheers Tony

| Re: Where to find small brake boosters (hydraulic or vacuum) Hi Piglet, I have done some study in the cobra brake concept. You can find at my site http://www.donostia.demon.nl After all the research I found the best solution for my needs was the Mitsubishi 1 master cylinder with Toyota Starlet booster. (You can see the pictures) The Starlet booster will give you enough boost with a firm pedal (No travel before brake works) The Mitsubishi 1 I bought new via e-bay and it was only 35 euro. The booster was from a scrap yard (like new) Forget the hydraulic there are to many problems with the system. Regards, Cobra289

| Re: Where to find small brake boosters (hydraulic or vacuum) Bowtie/Cobra289: Thanks for your help, I'll look into that mix of Toyota booster and the mitsu master cylinder. Though I'd rather not make a hole in my inner wing :P Looks kinda funny me thinks! Grandboats: Hmmm... SVC, do they have a homepage or something? I'd like to see that remote booster they've got (especially what kinda MCs that fit on it) Regards, hans B
