Fuel pumps

I have a Holley Blue electric fuel pump.
Ever since I have had the car there has been a wiff of petrol in the boot. Checked for leaks and tank breather, all seemed ok.
There is evidence of a fuel mark on the wheel arch under the pump, but I have never found a leak. Until now.
I have sat in the garage with engine running, boot open for longer than one should. So I could be halusinating and it obviously affects spelling.
There is a small @1mm diameter hole on the side of the body. This seems to be weeping. After quite sometime a small drip eventualy falls of off the back of the pump to create the mark and the smell.
I have been advised this is due to a sceal in the pump and should be replaced.
Real Steel say that you can no longer replace bits therefore a new pump.
Holley Red= @£90.00
Carter 4.5-6.5psi=@£60.00
Customville recomend I use another Holley Blue at @£114.00 and throw away the regulator as it comes with a seporate regulator and you can't split the box. They also say a Carter fuel pump won't be enough on full tilt and a Holley Red won't be a good match for the existing Holley Blue regulator.
Rather than put a mechanical pump on I thought it would be easier to just un-bolt one and replace with another.
What do you recon guy's
I have a ford 302,fast road cams, edelbrock 600cfm. Running with a constant 6psi fuel pressure.

Re: Fuel pumps

Why don't you fit a mechanical pump? No smells, no pressure worries and 10 a penny prices. The only reason for not fitting a mechanical pump should be space problems or fuel injection.

I totally agree, I run a 6 PSI mechanical on mine with no problems even on the track. :thumb:

Re: Fuel pumps

I have a Carter fitted at the moment and it keeps the carb fed at 5-6 psi at WOT, works for me :thumb:

Re: Fuel pumps

The standard Carter electric moves 72 gph. 120mph for 1hour @ 5mpg = 24 gallons.

Re: Fuel pumps

Chris

Not only am I known for being Billy, but I'm also known for being the first one needing fuel on a run.
Hopefully the new carb has helped a bit on that front.
If a Carter will do the job I'll get one tomorow.
Anyone got a picture I have no idea what shape or size they are. (alterations and stuff)
I have just been informed the Carter is much quieter than a Holley.
